Hi! I just discovered Gimp, and i would like to learn how to take out a one colored background and put another one instead of it. I tried to do it but this is my result:

Do you mean like remove the color and change it to a image?

Erase the background, then add a back layer (the image). It should work fine.

Yes. Remove the old background and put a new one. I cant find a way to do it. The result looks like a ghost. Sorry. English aint my native language.

Use the lasso selection tool and zoom in.
Then cut out the selection and paste it to a new layer. Done

Meh, what you're trying to do here is rendering the character.

Hive doesn't have tutorial about this, but what about visiting a render site? They got great tutorials.
