GIMP (is this the right section?)

I don't know whether or not this is the right section for this Thread but w/e here goes.

I'm working on an art project for warcraft in Gimp and i want to make an image like 60% transparent... is there a way to do that?

Maybe using eraser tool with 40% opacity. Not sure, though.

i think adding a new layer and making it white or transperent then set it to 60% at the layer creation screen.

Another solution is to get paint dot net v.3.00 go to layers, select layer properties, tone down the opacity, Done. Will take you 2-3 min if you go download it now.

I have another question. It is possible to make curves in GIMP like you make them in Paint?

Not completley true. If you have a white backround it will be transparent

No, I don't think so. What I do is just make the image in paint if I want curves then copy it into gimp and do what ever editing I want.
