O, well hai der!...

I'm just sort of bored, sitting here at my computer doing nothing, so I decided to write up a quick story that popped into my head while I'm getting more inspiration for the REAL book I'm writing. This story's name is "Fate," just because I can't think of anything else better (suggestions for a name are welcome). Anyway, I hope you enjoy this, and I might update more of it if I get good feedback / I find time to update! Thanks, and I hope you enjoy Fate.

The hermit smiled, revealing his crooked teeth, and inhaled a deep breath as he stood on top of the raised council platform, so that all in the vast hall could see him. His clothes were tattered and foreign. No sort of fashion of clothing had been seen by any of the hundreds of people that had flooded into the huge marble chamber of the palace as word had spread like wildfire through the busy city of Iona that a strange person had arrived, bearing grave and prophetic news.

He breathed in one more breath, and began to speak. His voice was quite soft for a person with such a gruff appearance. The voice was clear and resonant, and though however soft it was, all in the hall could hear him.

"There are some things mere mortals are not meant to know. The reality that we, as mortals, know, is quite complex. But the true reality that exists, the one that cannot be seen by mortal eyes or contemplated by the feeble minds of those with finite lives, lies just beneath the fog that has been so cleverly weaved by the One who created us.

When I say "us," I do not mean just humans, or orcs, or night elves. I do not refer to the trolls or the taurens, the blood elves or the draneai. The word "us," in this context, means just that: All races, all civilizations, all living beings united.

Though so many have been deceived by the tellings of false gods and fake deities, I know the truth: There is only but One who controls all we know. But this One is not truly "one," nor is it a he or she. The One cannot be referred to as a singular person, for it is not one.

The One is everything... And nothing. The One lives in all of us, but the One also watches over us from a kingdom high above the blue skies of our world, and the worlds of others.

However, though there is only "One" who is ultimate, there are still those who have great power. The archangel Ornix and the demon Kihazon, along with other lesser entities, roam amongst us.

The angels of the High Order of the One serve as the One's hands, feet, and eyes, ensuring that the fabrics of reality are mended and maintained.

But from peace and order comes corruption and evil. The demon Kihazon and his followers from worlds and dimensions far beyond fathomable space roam the Void that connects all the realms of our universe, looking for any possible hole in the fabric of space and time to spread their seeds of evil.

This is why the winds on your back feels cold, and have a lingering smell of evil. For Kihazon and other demons are now conspiring to do away with the One's creations once and for all. Though they will fail in the end, many things we of this planet have come to know will be catastrophically altered. Even if these evil forces will fail, the existance of this universe and many others may very well fall apart.

But do not fear. For wherever there is corruption and anarchy, there is bound to be good and hope. And hope there shall be. After years of turmoil and war, a baby will be born far to the North. This boy will bring light to the darkness that will cover the land as the effects of Kihazon's poisoning long before he even arives in flesh to our world. But when Kihazon finally reveals himself to this realm, all hope will fall upon this boy.

Though the One controls all things, the destiny of this boy has been left to his own. Nothing is set in stone, and the very fate of the universe may fall on
this one being's shoulders. Will you help or hinder him, now that you know that which should not be known by mortals?

I cannot tell you all that which will come to be. As I have said, nothing is set in stone. But one day, the light will come into the darkness. The darkness will not understand the light, and so will seek to destroy it, as is the nature of all living things.

Will you help or hinder this one who may very well be the savior of you all? I will not live to know, for my time has come. The One is calling me, and I must return to him with post-haste. I leave this conflict up to you all. Before I leave, you must know: You have been in the presence of the angel Elenai, who truly knows and lives with the One."

And with that, the old hermit truly left the corporeal universe. The hermit slowly disappeared dust bit by dust bit in front of the eyes of the fearful crowd of people, as if some unknown wind had come into the huge marble council chamber and carried the hermit away with it as it left.

The people murmured about what the hermit had said. They had all seen him disappear there. A few brave ones from the crowd had emerged and stepped up onto the table to see what the hermit had left behind. But the only thing they saw was a small pile of dust, and a note written in elegant hand writing on a small piece of parchment:

"The light came into the darkness, but the darkness did not understand."

The people in the hall did not know what to say. The looked to the council members who were all still sitting awe-struck at the table from what the hermit had said. The council members all looked at each other, and they knew that the end was coming.

So, let me know what you think. The Elenai name is in there just because I couldn't think of a better name (no offense Elenai!), and it seemed fitting since he has those "prophecies" (though the prophecy in this story was a bit more serious). If you actually managed to get this far, allow me to congratulate you for having a higher than average attention span than most forumgoers.

Anyway, give your thoughts, feelings, comments, ideas, but try to keep your posts flame-free to as not to crush my self-esteem. Thanks for reading, and I might update if I ever get around to it (I'm writing a bunch of different books, this was just something I wanted to post to give a sample of my work to the Hive).

Thanks!
~ Ghost
