Faceless One Tentacle Pit

Remember at my WIP thread when you guys said that my Naga Tentacled Guardian, if modified, would make a great defensive structure for the Faceless Ones? Well, I've kept my promise and made the Tentacle Pit.

This version has a different pool where the tentacle pops out of from the original Tentacled Guardian. The teamcoloured base of the pool is a modified Sacrificial Pit that was remapped to use the metal parts of the Faceless One texture. The swirling portal pretty much remains the same and is of a permanent purple colour rather than being teamcoloured. The tentacle itself is, of course, reskinned. In addition to these changes, I have also made a custom birth attachment for this structure.

This model uses ingame textures, so no need to worry about texture paths. The model also does not require a portrait since there was one already built-in from when I edited it. The custom birth attachment that comes with this model is uploaded as the model's portrait, so be sure to rename it to FacelessBirth.mdx and then change the path from war3mapImported\FacelessBirth.mdx to FacelessBirth.mdx after impoting it.

If you want to use this model then feel free to do that, provided that you'll give credit to me in return.

UPDATE 1:
Updated the Birth animation and changed the white glow of the portal to a dark abyss. However, I couldn't get the texture of the Birth mesh to actually animate ingame because the War3 Model Editor didn't save the applied texture animation for some strange reason, so for now it's static.

UPDATE 1.5:
Finally got the animated texture to work! Thanks to Misha for helping me fix that.

UPDATE 1.75:
Recalculated extents.

UPDATE 2:
Recalculated extents again and changed the dark abyss of the portal to look like a bit like a black hole.

UPDATE 2.25:
Removed white glow and recalculated extents... AGAIN.

UPDATE 2.5:
Adjusted the portrait background and recalculated extents. Hopefully that should finally eliminate the issues regarding the health bar being displayed too high up above the model.

UPDATE 3:
Removed the portrait background as it is not worth keeping and recalculated ectents for the final time.

also.. i'm not happy with how the building's build animation looks, can't you add some spooky animated texture crawling all over the building as it constructs? think runes might be a good idea for the crawly texture

finally that pesky health bar is fixed :) i approve this

It looks very well made. You should give it upgraded versions as well. Like the other races have upgrades for their defensive emplacements. For example, to give it a melee attack upgrade a spike or a hook could be added to the end of the tentacle. Then for a ranged attack upgrade you could make it look like the tentacle is holding a boulder or a sludge ball. Then it would of course throw it on attack animation.

it looks cool, but klayton has a point, just a simple set of animations called upgrade first would be awesome, and easy too:

to implement his boulder idea, all you would have to do, would to be to build a second tentacle and a second set of vertexes for the boulder, and then make them invisible in the normal melee animations, and then make the normal melee tentacles invisible during the special upgrade first animations.

I on the other hand, always hated how the night elf ancient protector simply summons rocks out of no where, a better strategy for a tentacle might in fact be a longer more gnarly looking tentacle, rather then a grabbing boulder one, and make it covered in purple blue or pink lights, and then make the attack animation somewhat like flailing a whip, so that it could shoot bolts of purple blue or pink fire lighting or goo, and then you don't even really need much of an edit, just a bigger more magical looking tentacle, perhaps with extra fingers, like how all forgotten ones hands have 3 fingers.

as it is its pretty cool. I think its pretty cool even if the map does not have the forgotten race, its a cool demonic cave creep in general.

as for the melee tentacle as it is, I think its missing something, remember the forgotten one tentacles? how they where covered in teeth or barbs? I think if you go look at one of the fel hound models you'd notice some pretty gnarly teeth, this tentacle could perhaps use some teeth on the under belly side, that does the striking, so that its melee attack looks more vicious without adding too much file space or work. as it is it just looks like its gently patty slapping the top of you're head without really hurting you, teethed tentacles look pretty scary (check out Stephen Kings ''The Mist'' Garage Tentacle Scene for what I am talking about):

6/10 as the model is now, it is pretty unique.

EDIT: in addition, a portrait camera would be capable of replacing you're portrait model too. so that you can knockdown even more space.

EDIT: right the portraits just the birth art my mistake

Can I have some of that Sushi?:pgrin:
Just kidding, I was talking about the model.

You probably know about this already, but there are bugs that require debugging:
-The Birth animation shows only the model being void-black.
-Unless it should have a water explosion like the Tidal Guardian, I see no special effects for the Death animation.
-When it does those Stand animations, you should have them slither out than shoot straight up like a stalk.
Otherwise, the Sushi Tower looks good.:pgrin:
