Hiya!

When I stopped playing World of Warcraft, I started to miss almost only one thing: Instances, aka dungeons. Having a Tank, Healer, and 3 dps, 2 of them being able to crowd control(the most basic group-combination).

But, it's very hard to find maps in WC3 where I could bring this enjoyment back to life, for myself, and why not for others too. I know though that this is possible, as I've played few maps like that and really enjoyed those. But it wasnt' enough! So I decided to create something like that myself.

So, I ask for your opinions, those that play or know enough of WoW to answer.

- What 5 classes would be the best 5-man dungeon combination in your opinion, and why?
ALSO, what 5 basic skills each of those classes would absolutely need?

Based on replies, I'll create simple sample dungeon map and start longer project to create enjoyable dungeon maps with simple game-play and hopefully, fun encounters.

Thank you, if anyone bothers to reply :)

Here's my opinion

I've been playing WoW since beta, and I am quite biased as to my choices, however...

TANK:

Warrior - The original Tank. Back in the days when wow was young, it was pretty much the only way to go for a tank. Druids could do it too, but Warriors were by far the best till T2-level gear.

ABILITIES:
TAUNT - What would a tank be without Taunt?
SHIELD SLAM - The have-all, end-all for a tank.
SUNDER ARMOR - The classic threat ability, of course.
-Maybe a couple other abilities, Thunderclap perhaps, for some Multi-Tanking? or a Shout or 2?
WARNING: I have played a Warrior since beta, so I am HIGHLY biased. ^^

HEALER:

Priest - In the eyes of the fresh players the Priest seems to be the "solid healer" class. I know when I first started playing I had generalized ideas of the classes and their roles, and I viewed Priests as a White Mage in Final Fantasy terms.

ABILITIES:
FLASH HEAL - If you put cast times onto the abilities, give a Priest FH.
RENEW - No explanation needed...I hope?
GREATER HEAL - Again, if there is cast times, make this heal hit harder and cast longer, of course.
-Perhaps Power Word: Shield? Or maybe even Fortitude could be placed in there as well.

DPS/CC(Crowd Control):

Mage - The classic CC class. Polymorph is the greatest CC of all times (imo), and heavy-hitters to boot. Might want to give them a lot of mana, of course, ^^

ABILITIES:
FIREBALL - Do I really have a need to explain this?
FROSTBOLT - Don't forget to add the chill effect! ^^
POLYMORPH - Yay Sheep :D
-Perhaps Arcane Intellect and Blizzard as well?
WARNING: I have played a Mage since '05, so I am HIGHLY biased. ^^

Rogue - The assassin. Wouldn't be WoW without a Rogue for certain. Massive Melee DPS, and CC in the form of Sap. Not sure how you could work the Energy, but you can probably find a way around it :p

ABILITIES:
SINISTER STRIKE - Everyone thinks Rogues only have to spam this move...might as well please the general ignorant population >_>
STEALTH - All it means to be a Rogue. :)
SAP - Only usable while Stealthed would be best, of course.
-Not sure what else you can really implement with a Rogue without being able to use Combo Points. Perhaps Sprint or Evasion, though?
WARNING: I've been playing a Rogue since '06, and is my favorite class, so I am HIGHLY biased. ^^

Huntard...erm, excuse me, Hunter: - *shrug* that pretty much said it all, lol. PewPew ftw?

ABILITIES:
PET - Needs to have a pet, of course. What the pet can do...I have no clue, make something up. Maybe give it Claw, or Bite or something depending on the animal. :)
TRUESHOT AURA - Except make it increase all damage, perhaps? Maybe not...
ARCANE SHOT - Arcane Damage?
SERPENT STING - MORE DOTS! :p

Anyway, that about sums up my opinion. Basically the overall reasoning behind this is:
Warriors are the greatest tanks ever (Stupid Tankadins! D:)
Priests are probably the easiest Healer class to make in WC3 since they are already half-made for you...
Rogues are THE Melee DPS. Got to have some Melee DPS, right?
Mages are the CC kings, and they got the Firepower.
Hunters are the Ranges DPS...Got to have all the bases covered!

This gives us a strong Tank, an adept Healer, a Melee DPS, a Caster DPS, and the Ranged DPS. Basically everything you find in wow in a very vague sense.

Hope this helps. If you need any additional information, ideas, or even a beta tester, I'd be glad to help! Just pm me!

PS - I like the idea. Though personally I prefer raids over instances. 10-mans of course. Though that would be possible, it would make the game quite a bit more complicated, lol. I've played every class to at least level 30 (Except Paladin but I've messed with my friend's paladin at 70...confusing, though!)

Thank you, thank you, for the reply :) I awaited for further replies, but now I'm ready to move forward.
Those classes are pretty much what I thought myself too, and feels wise choice. I might replace hunter with Shaman(elemental), as many spells in WC3 work well with shamans.

As I'm really a newbie in map-making, though I try hard, I'm thinking of doing very simple map first. I would give the heroes only three skills, the most basic ones, and make level limit like 5. Kinda like having non-hero units, but still bit more. This way items will have a big role too.

Good things about this is: A) good starting point for me, nothing too big and fairly simple to make. B) Will keep the idea of fun dungeon simple enough, possible to play it in single-player mode but will be fun with group.

Dungeon(s) will be short enough so that it wont come boring, but long enough to keep interest, at least this is the plan.

So, that's my basic ideas so far. Opinions needed, how does this sounds? I will most probably put this to Map Development forum with screenshots etc, after getting the plan together :)

Sounds good to me. I'm also looking for opinions on my new project, though i'm not having much luck yet but with 1 person, lol.

I'm only a beginner too, and I know I'm in way over my head (I am EPIC FAIL at triggering. I have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE), but I got a dream, and I WILL make it come true. That's my reasoning, lol.

Anyway, like I said, hit me up if you need anything, I'll be glad to help with what I can. I like to think of myself in college terms as having my Major being Ideas and my Minor being Terraining. Everything else is kinda iffy, but I can do a little of everything.

Just pm me or go to my Forum (Link is in my sig) if you need anything. I'll be glad to help. In fact, I just canceled my wow subscription today because I'm tired of paying to not play. :p

Thanks Vizel :) Currently I have my ideas pretty much on straight line, and I'm keeping them at low-level untill framework for my first dungeon map is done and I know that "I can do this!"

I will most probably pm you when I'm further on this little project, as you seem to have plenty of knowledge about various things, and I'm sure you can help me out.

So, basics of this project of mine will be:
- Dungeon with about 2-4 bosses
- 5 Heroes, tank, healer, and 3 dps which each having their own "speciality":
- Crowd Control, keep enemy controlled via stuns or snares.
- Debuffing the enemies.
- Pure DPS with few differend ways, OR supporting dps.
- Getting new equipment to buff the heroes.
- Simple gameplay, not meant to be advanced but rather fun run with heroes facing bit challenging obstacles.

Haha, when I put it like that, it sounds so complicated already x) But it will work, hopefully... If even this becomes too hard for me, I'll make straight corridor with few monsters, five lvl 1 heroes, and boss that's triggered ability is to summon few mobs around it :D

Next week, I'm going to put this to Map Development forum with few screenshots, and work as hard as I can and whenever I have time to get it done quickly! If that succees... I'm happy and will continue making new dungeons!

Well one of the things about WoW that I hate most is the classes, so I suggest you make your own.

I don't know about that. People may get upset because then it wouldn't really be a WoW map. Perhaps new abilities instead of new classes, though? Or even what you're saying, a different system of doing things.

I'm sure that you're most probably right Void, as you've definetly seen so much :) But, some of us haven't, and even still, I for example find the most basic idea, which in this is, tank - heal - dps, to be most enjoyable. And it will be the idea of the map. As old as it sounds!

And about classes, I dont want to make my own classes, just make simple versions of the already in WoW :p

But abilities I will most probably have to change around, depending what I can do with the WE.
