Why, hello there! and welcome to my upcoming never coming hopefully coming Warcraft III map project page.
Strong start, I know
This is my second incarnation in the Hive, and the second incarnation of this map idea. If you dig through my old posts, you’ll find a questionable attempt from 2012… Oh I was young...
A lot has changed since then. Life happened, hobbies faded, I moved to Amsterdam and somehow, 14 years later, I decided it is time... To...uh
DUNGEONS AND WARLORDS!
And the much more likely to be released (Hopefully a chapter within a few weeks at least!) - The Grand Design.
I'll begin by explaining my much more likely to be released GD, my showcase of terrain and ideas from Dungeons and Warlords as I progress very very slowly with that map.
D&W is a grand plan for a tactical/rpg/rts inspired by a lot of common fantasy - Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer, Warcraft, ASOIAF, Tolkien and more - You're gonna see Ork Boyz throwing choppas at Noble Warcraft Orcs and wonder - why wasn't this done before?!!?
The gameplay would be less about large scale RTS battles and more about small warbands, micromanagement and camera management (SO beautiful with the RPG minimap by Antares), many different resources and areas to contest, no base building, no races - just heroes building armies from the world available to them - You could become a powerful necromancer or a mighty knight - lead demons or elves, you choose, hey there is even chicken!
This kind of map involves a lot of grand terrain, big areas - large scale rather than RTS scale - so many ideas, so many that it kinda probably never gets done, you know?
Terrain is my big love, so that actually brings me to what I will release...
THE GRAND DESIGN!
I realized I need to release something, otherwise I’ll just keep circling the editor and finishing nothing. The only thing I ever properly completed before was a small area for an old Warhammer map, and the best part of that was seeing people actually play it.
So I’m leaning into that.
The areas I’m building for Dungeons and Warlords already work well as small, self-contained experiences. They’re perfect for simple RPG-style maps and focused mini scenarios and that’s what The Grand Design is all about.
Each release will be a small, playable piece built around a specific terrain. It lets me show the environment, test ideas from the larger project, and most importantly, actually finish something, No overpromising (to myself mostly lol) just complete pieces, released one at a time.
At first, the focus will be on custom heroes and abilities and later on I’ll experiment with small warband-style encounters and light mechanics, depending on what fits the terrain I’m working on - All while slowly working on the real grand design... Dungeons and Warlords.
And of course being the old guy I am, only classic WC
And finally that brings us to the upcoming first chapter...
After about a month of tinkering and re-learning the editor after 14 years, I have decided to re-design-the-grand-design and the whole project as my editor skills are now up to date.
As such, I'm going to make a new concept for the first chapter of the Design and stitch together a much bigger map for my whole project - Dungeons and Warlords.
Currently I have taken the creepy-forest concept into it's original concept - an instance within a bigger forest, I've switched the neon greens for glowing reds and buried it deep within a THICK forest which will be the center of the main map.
The forest is home to many things, the deeper you go the darker it gets, the creepy forest instance is buried deep within and is one of a few things you can do in this forest - To find it you have to look for a pathway hidden under many trees - minimap will be disabled with RPG Minimap system so it really easy to get lost in the forest
Also pretty cool stuff like layered cave entrances (I've posted a small video demo), tree tunnels for quick travel around the forest, a whole area of the forest dominated by scripted jackdaws! birds fly around and make jackdaw noises, very fun
and of course some more hidden secrets...
I've also designed a concept I had from 14 years ago - A mashup of Chaos Warriors, Mordor and Wildings from GOT - I created the "Black Hand" fjords - kind of like a Fist shaped fjord area, where every finger is a different clan - ruled by the Iron Fist, on the highest peak - Black knights ruling with power. Then you have Clan Belial, Warmachine makers. Clan Deathmaw - man eating ogres and giants, Clan Leviathan - Sea raiders and finally - Clan I havent made up my mind yet, got bored and made a forest instead (will get back to it later)
This is turning out to be one hell of a level design project - I am looking forward to releasing something, so hopefully my original idea of a small quest in a playable area of my map will be a good start to showcase what I'm making, for now - here are screenshots and videos showing some of the fun things.
So here are some cool new things to check out for the thread no one replies to!

THE PURGE
Deep within the heart of an ancient, thoroughly cursed forest, you know the kind you absolutely do not walk into, a dark cult has taken up residence in a conveniently abandoned fortress...
Naturally, they are drawn to the deep caverns below, where the good stuff is - Their goal? simple, mine the vein of corrupted, definitely-not-so-safe-to-touch ore that seeps pure necrotic energy, it's a terrible idea unless you're really evil, you know?
Well, nothing goes too long in our world without a bit of justice! The Order, a collection of questionable agents of righteousness, inquisitors spreading the most violent kind of justice - have stepped in to purge the evil and claim what lies in the bowels of hell for their holy order... I mean, why waste?
Due to budget constraints, only two out of four available inquisitors have been chosen for this task... Armed with faith, fire and a complete lack of nuance our zealous inquisitors will purge the evil from this land.
And now for the good stuff... Here are screenshots of the upcoming first chapter.
