He made a Standard Melee Map using his favorite units, Bandits. Let me know what you guys think. We made this about a year or two ago.

The Custom Version of my son's map. He wanted to make some alternative changes to the Humans using more Bandits to make it more interesting.
Heroes can level up to level 15 as well as Attribute bonus added to their respected Hero abilities.
Bandit mode, can be researched at the Town Hall, and costs nothing.
This allows you to train the Dark Knight Hero, replaces Riflemen into Brigands, Priests into Chaplain, Sorceress into Hydromancers, & Knights into Dark Knights.

Dark Knights & Dark Knight Hero are a new unit we created. the Dark Knight Hero is essentially Lord Garithos, but a playable hero instead of a campaign version. Hero abilities include: Shockwave, Divine Shield, Command Aura, and Summon Dark Knights.

Summon Dark Knights Ability is an Ultimate that summons 2 Dark Knight units for 60 secs.
Dark Knight Units are just a darker version of Knights

There also is a hidden Secret, Type -Garithos to summon Lord Garithos in the center of the map. Once he is defeated you can use the Rebirth to use him as a 4th playable hero. Previously we had a custom item that would drop and be used upon acquiring the item, but we recently switched to the Rune of Rebirth instead.

Review - Dreadlock
(Version August 9th 2023)
Synopsis: Dreadlock is a minor edit of the existing Blizzard map Deadlock. The edit turns the map into a fall theme and implements custom changes to units.
Map Aesthetics: The map looks visibly the same as the original map - albeit in colors of autumn. Simple edit.
Map Layout: No changes.
Neutral Objectives: No changes.
Map Gameplay: No changes in the standard version - some creeps might differ (maybe for the better). The altered version is rather lacking and simple execution of altered melee. While it implements changes, they are very simple and straightforward. The result of the touch of a new aspiring map maker perhaps?
Recommendations:
Fix the description to explain what the bundle contains (you already mentioned this in the comments, but it should be included in the map description on Hive. Also, please mention which map this is based on (Deadlock, by Blizzard Entertainment).

In order to move it from lacking to simple, you must at least mark Blizzard as the author of the map, as the edits made are very simple.

I'd also expect more detailed description (on Hive) on what exactly has been altered to give it the status of an altered melee map. Bear in mind that altered melee implements new factors into gameplay that do not exist in default melee (such as new races or hero units).

I will forward this info to my son since he is the original author. I just helped him with it.

I was curious to know if previous maps that are ruled as simple/Useful will be changed to lacking due to them being very similar but got the approval.

My son had since stopped making maps since the last review of this one. He felt it wasn't worth the effort to try and get it changed since he felt other people got previous approvals and didn't have to add "Blizzard".

I was kind of sad about it but he moved on. It was something we shared as Father and son, but upon reading the review, got discouraged and quit.

I think the standard line on this is that older maps found in the archives are not going to be changed, as back in the day they were reviewed and approved with a completely different scale/rating system. Also, as far as I know, there was no way to have multiple authors on resources like we have now, so a lot of old resources have also been marked as "Blizzard Entertainment" as the sole author, even if it was created by someone else.

In short, since we now have the option to mark resources properly and validate the correct authors, it is a good practice to do so. Something you can try to explain to your son is also how original authors, whose previous work he's basing his own adjustments on, should also be credited as they deserve the mention. If it weren't for them, the new product wouldn't exist either.

Thank you for the details explanation and I tend to agree that proper credit.

“Give credit where credit is due”

Would I need to edit the actual map or just modify the description to reflect the author?

I’m not sure he even has the old Warcraft III installed since he is an adult and lives his own life as “I’m an adult dad!” lol
