Draeneis 'N' Demons Tag!

Prelude & Idea:

Welcome!

Welcome to my rather small project, that aims to be a clever mix of a 'Tag you're it' map, and professions!

In this map, on startup, the players are divided into draeneis and demons at random. For each 3 draeneis, there will be one demon. (If only 2 players, one on each side)

from here on, it's simple - draeneis run away, build a small base, using their buildings, get some defense against the mighty demons.

- And here's the twist: For a rather large sum, the Draenei can train a craftsman, that has a profession! these professions are highly versatile, with the options of trading, between the players.

Finished percentages:

I will be using 2 percentages per item, the first describes how finished the necessary is, and the second how 'blinged up & fixed' it is.

Terrain: 100% 0%

Buildings: 100% 40%

Items: 80% 0%

Runner spells: 100% 80%

Tagger spells: 100% 50%

Professions: 50% 0%

Models: 80% 0%

2D art: 60% 0%

Systems: 100% 90%

Triggers: 90% 0%

Participant info:

Runners:

The runners, or builders, will generally be slow. yet, their abilities makes up for it. The runners have 4 abilities, And a list of buildings.

Buildings:
Weak wall UPG: Mediocre wall UPG: Good wall
Explosive wall
Lookout tower UPG: True sight tower
House +5 food
Arcane gold extractor +gold income
Slam tower (Knockback 3 - see how later)
Stun tower (5% chance)
Slayer tower (high damage)
Enchanted book (30 sec build time empowerment caster building)
Mess hall (troop & profession training facility)
Create ice (Creates ice in a small area - for use in the knockback system)

25% Evasion "Lucky dodge"

Berserk "Careless sprint" - increases movement speed by 100%, but increases damage taken by 1000% (yes, as in thousand)

Storm bolt "Emergency strike" - Stuns the target tagger for 2 seconds, and applies knockback 15. (read about knockback later on)

Thunder clap (dummy) "Slide!" - Slides forward, gracefully evading taggers. This actually just applies knockback 30, directed forward. - Also, if you're standing on the top of a ledge, or you've become stuck as you respawned, you can use this ability to jump down, easily losing followers.

Demons:

Demons are heroes - they have a massive amount of HP, damage etc.etc. The level limit is currently 15.

The demons start with a spellbook, from the edges of the nether, containing spells (Hopefully more to come, suggest!)

Relentlessness of the Abyss - Reincarnation, basically. 0 second cooldown (constantly) with 30 second delay - rendering the demon completely in-killable, yet slow to recuperate.

Scourge - Changes a large piece of the terrain around the demon tagger to blight. While standing on blight, the tagger regenerates 10 hp per second.

Destroy minerals - Sometimes, minerals can get in the way, blocking the tagger completely, to upwigh this, the tagger can instantly send all nearby ore veins to the abyss. - removing them, they do not yield anything.

Sentry ward - What's a Tag, if the tagger doesn't have sentry ward? Huh?

Besides this highly useful spellbook, the tagger also has 5 abilities, it can learn throught the regular hero learning system.

Chain of destruction (Chain lightning) - Sends out a chain of destruction, that wrecks total havoc among buildings - dealing (150/300/450) damage to the primary building, then jumping the nearby other buildings. each jump deals 10% less damage.

Storm bolt (yeah, storm bolt, lazy me) - Slams the target hard with a stormbolt, dealing (75/180/300) damage. Can target everything the runners have.

Far sight (... Far sight) AoE vision gain, & invisibility check. (small/medium/large) area revealed.

Wind walk (why do i do these parenthesises? ... Wind walk) Faster moving invisibility, weehoo!!! - Yeah, not original - and guess what, backstab damage :D (100/240/400)

Avatar (avatar -.-) - ultimate - Spell immunity, more Armor, more damage, more hp, SIZE ;D

Professions:

So far i have 3 professions, but i'm aiming for 6 - maybe 7.

The professioned draeneis can be bought at the mess hall, for a hefty sum - they're pretty vulnerable draeneis, that specialize in some sort of craft.

MINER

Miner - A miner is a clever and strong draenei, that can gather minerals, from ore veins all around the map. When the 'gather minerals' ability have been hit a few times, the ores will be destroyed, and minerals will drop from it. any mineral may drop nothing, or all 4 drop items:

75% - Hard rock
40% - Iron Ore
25% - Green Ore
10% - Jewel

The Miner can build a blacksmith, that can fuse these items together. E.g. - if the blacksmith (that has 2 slot-inventory) holds 2 hard rocks, it will create a mixed item, that grants +5 armor. The rarer the minerals you mix, the better the item, although even a hard rock and a jewel can be mixed, for a great result. (damage return, in this case) - These mixed items can be held by walls and towers - or even your runner. the +300 hp item, or spell immunity will do miracles for whatever thing that holds it - but it has a downside, if the holder dies, the item will drop, for the tagger to take - unless a building uses 'Demolish' while holding the item - then it will be gone.

SCHOLAR

The scholar is an extremely clever draenei, that cares for his library. He can build a Bookshelf, that contains spells and magical books. The Scholar has gotten his hands on every type of magical energy - besides demonic, and is therefore craving to get hold of some. He has the abilities "Flash" allowing for 500 range teleportation "Homecall" Teleporting the draenei to one of your Bookshelfs (Although you probably only will have 1) - with 5 second casting time. And lastly, but not least, "Crystallize mana" - that can be cast on a demon. When this demon is struck by the spell, it'll lose 50 mana, and some crystallized mana will be given to the scholar. - this crystallized mana can be turned in at a bookshelf, to replenish 50 mana. But, if the demon gets a hold of the crystallized mana, he'll get +50 mana, permanently.

The Bookshelf has these 3 spells (Until further notice)

Scribble - {20 mana} Creates a tome, that, when given to a building, permanently increases hp by 50.

Riftcall - {30 mana} Summons a draenei Soldier, through a rift from Outland - ready for battle.

Tome Merge - {250 mana} Destroys 4 Enchanted books within the designated area, and in the process, creating a mark of rapture, an extremely powerful artifact, that contains the power to slay a Demon.

Gardener

The gardener is a pretty easy profession - not much here. It uses lumber, as the base for it's advantages. The Gardener has an ability with 60 sec cooldown, that grants +1 lumber, and he can plant some stuff. all 'plants' take 30 seconds to fully grow. This profession takes up alot of space.

Tree - {1 lumber} Has ability 'Harvest' that creates a bundle of lumber, that give +3 lumber.
Mushroom - {5 lumber} Has ability 'Harvest' that creates an edible mushroom, that restores mana and HP (This is bugged, and instead creates a bundle of lumber in the BETA, sorry)
Peruvian Ball-plant {10 lumber} Kinda like the explosives wall, also applies knockback to the killer of it, but has more HP, and no inventory space.
Thorns {25 lumber} Walkable, invulnerable thorns, damages 20 per second to any enemy walking over it, can't be struck by anything (Again bugged, not invulnerable, if i'm correct, don't remember) These thorns only go away, when the draenei owning them dies. Can't be destroyed in any other way.

Many more plants to come! Suggest!

Systems:

Knockback system.

This is a powerful system, which is used alot. numerous abilities, units and buildings, use this system, to either gain momentum, or slamming away unwanted enemies. This system only works on units with movement, and when knockback is applied to them, they start sliding away in a direction. the number specified after 'Knockback' in the knockback abilities, tells you how far the knockbacked will fly. knockback incapacitates the knockbacked, whilst being knockbacked. If anyone is knockbacked, while on ice, friction is reduced dramatically. This system is used very much, and brings an element of teasing and planning to the game.

Trade system.

The players' views are all hidden from one another, so noone gets an unfair advantage over anyone else, when turning demon. The respective teams are allies, none the less, and should therefore have a chance to exchange items and resources, without having to risk a long run across the map - the trade system is not finished, and has it's flaws, but it tries to make up for it. Any player may write -Trade XX (player number) and a tradebag will spawn at the runner. it has 6 inventory slots, and an ability that trades it to the designated player.

Plus an amount of minor systems, such as slam tower's ability, getting autocast.

Jobs:

Well, So far, i've done all of the map by myself, but since i'm not skilled in modelling and such, it could be nice to get someone to cover for me there, since there's only 3-4 draenei models. If noone volunteers, I'll just go on by myself, with a lacking map, no worries. jobs i need fulfilled:

Terrainer - to sweeten it up, with some nice texture variation and such.
Modeller - To create some new models for the draenei soldiers and such
2D Artist - To create new Icons, minimap preview (I've done one myself, but it turned out HIDEOUS!) and loading screen.
I've got the triggering covered.
Testers! - and lots of them - go test my map through, with your friends and such, show me typos, bugs and everything else! Map attached (protected) below!

Hello! Firstly, i would like to apologize for the wall of text. I know it's much to overcome, but just skip over anything that's not interesting.

Well! I need ideas for 3 more Professions!

my current ideas:

I'm considering to do an Engineer, that is reliant on the Miner and the gardener, to get respectively iron ore and lumber.

A Trader - that aims to get gold. - That can build expensive trading posts, that has draenei merchants travelling between them, the further the draenei merchants walk, the more money you get.

And some sixth - i've scrapped some ideas: Fisherman, Collector. - these won't be used.

Well - posting this in the project recruitment thread too, to get the jobs filled.

Hello.
Professions:

Rock Polisher : The rock polisher polishes rocks to transform them into spikes. The spikes can then be used on any building/unit to give him a thorns effect. The better, pointier and sharper the rock is, the more damage is returned. Can reshape the polished rocks into jewelry to sell them.

Barkeeper : The barkeeper can make alcolohic things.. To throw them at enemies. When you throw them at enemies, the enemy gets slowed/cursed/envenomed/etc depending on what drink you threw : for example, if the drink is a beer, he will be cursed. And so on. Can also sell beers to get money.

Mercenary : Now, the mercenary : The mercenary is a unit that, rather than getting money from selling, gains them from killing. This unit is powerful, and gains money from attacking. He recieves higher health, a high-cooldown reincarnation, and "Call of the Mercenaries" which brings more mercenaries to fight.
Plants:

Nether Rose : This rose emits a strange aura. The units near it get afraid, getting cursed and slowed. This rose, coming from the Nether, is very rare.. And very powerful.

Acidic Tree : Whoever thought trees could have acid? This tree, instead of having fruits, has acid. The acid gets throwed at units attacking the tree, making them recieve damage (NOT THORNS!). Has a nice health regeneration and a nice total amount of health. Can be used as a wall.

Sea "Hulk" : This Sea Plant was named Sea "Hulk" because it was.. Ten times the size of a normal Sea Plant, making it as big as a person. This can be walked on, and is invulnerable. The units walking on these will have a chance to :
Get knocked.
Get cursed.
Get slowed.
Run.
This plant only destroys when the owner dies.

Demon spells:

Flaw : The Demons detect the flaws of the humanoid beings. The biggest one : They burn because of the flames, unlike Demons. So the demon manipulates fire, and burns units and buildings around for 25 damage per second. Buildings recieve double the damage.

ShapeLess Demon : The Demon can turn into the shape of a mortal, forever. But for a high price..He loses his body. He gains the stats the mortal had, making him as powerful as him and the mortal together. He can switch between the Mortal Body and the Shapeless Demon body.

Well, thank you for your input. - Did you try it?

For the professions I say:
The rock polisher seems like a nice Idea, with a new name, and more versatile repetoire, he could be used.

The Barkeeper seems fine 'nuff, but, maybe a little out of context - with the whole 'we've survived the abyss' - and such setting.

And, finally Mercenary, a fine idea, but the more or less hit'n'runnish nature of him is a bit too much as the Scholar. I want very unique professions.

I love the herb ideas! Although that hulk thing seems a bit far-fetched. I want the gardening stuff, to be like, regular plants, that've possibly been modified by nether energies.

Well, the flaw idea seems a bit overdone, in relation to just saying 'Immolation' - "Owie, it buhns D:" but is definately an option.

And - Shapeless - remember, other players are going to inherit the demon, so nuttin' inreversible.

I really appreciate it! +rep and credz - and remember, only the demons are heroes.

Hey :)
I'm glad you liked the ideas.
The hulk seaplant was meant to be cursed by demons;
The Shapeless thing : I don't understand what you mean ;) ;
Flaw : right. Too much, it's just like the firelord - Too much firelords in maps :D

Well! I've thought it through, and i've decided on these 3 professions, as the remaining ones:

Engineer - Creates war machines, but is very reliant on other professions.
Rock polisher (going to be renamed) - That has chanced items, that has bonuses depending on how well they're made.
Gravedigger - Profession, where the draenei finds blight, and places gravestones and various other buildings upon it (details are a bit sketchy, but it sounds great so far.) These buildings are supposed to be twice as effective as regular buildings, but is limited by where the blight is.

BUMP!

(i assume i'm allowed since it's 2 days since last time, if i remember correctly)

New version of the map! changelog:

0.01
Nether rose for gardener
3 slot professions
fixed mushrooms for gardener
Faster draeneis - runner & professionistas
Added engineer
demon inventory system - when a demon tags a runner, his items are stored, until next time he's a tagger again - due to some testing, i found that my taggers dropped their items somewhere, to get them again...
demon vision D:1400 N:1800

Okay, its mt first review
Well the current sucks (because its beta :p)

I'll be seeing this things to be imrpoved
  • Almost every building/unit has no hotkeys.
  • I tested it online :p, then there are 2 leavers (we are 9 players, 9-2=7) then i spawned in the middle of everything, above me is a Open Slot draenei, left of me is the leaver and under me is a leaver, I got stuck. T_T. Then they called me nub. You might make a good way to start
  • The terrain is too awesome for my taste....not. I know its beta but srsly, you might want to add a good terrain so people of the hive will be interested in playing this.
  • The ore mines (forgot the name) are randomly scattered across the map.
  • Why the heck the units that is trained on the Mess Hall (except the miner, soldier, and the boomer (forgot the name) is unavailable, "The requirements is not met".
  • The towers are nearly the same with the towers on kodo tag, please be uniqe D:
  • The terrain tileset doesn't match with the map's theme and the loading screen, maybe change it to Outland.
  • Also, it would be better if.... when a Demon tagged a Draenei, stun the "new demon" for a few seconds and replace the "old Demon" with the draenei. Its hard for the tagged draeneis to look for the randomly placed "onced-Demon draeneis" (xD)

that's all, good luck

hello Gamer.
Well, I tested it, as you asked.
Not bad for a beta, but...
Bug(s) :
-Okay, found some bugs. I trained a Miner. So I checked back the barracks. There's still the Miner. Trained it, and said "Requirements not met". You should remove him when you train him. Now the bugs part in that :
Trained a scholar after it. It said "requirements not met" but I didn't have any scholar. Then I decided to try Gardener, but same : "Requirements not met".
You should have the right to get all of them. Since Miner almost doesn't do anything unseful.. Units don't have inventory, only him and forge :/

-Tested it Single Player only. Well, at start I was demon? You said "draenei sandbox mode". I guess not. I was demon, and computer (normal, you need opponent to start) was draenei. Killed him to become Draenei, and gone build a base.

-Terrain : The terrain is really bad and doesn't fit the theme, as supertoinkz said. At least add more trees.

-Ice : What does the ice do? Only reveal you to the enemy, to get killed?

-Enemy will never die. The reincarnation, yes, is slow (30) seconds. But what's the point? How to win..

-Ore Veins : The ore veins spawn randomly, some of them spawn on the cliffs.
Suggestions :

-Walls : Maybe add more walls. 3 walls are not enough and kind of easy to destroy.
Maybe special walls or something like that that are very powerful?

-Shops : Demons would need shops. You know, 130 damage is kinda not enough. And his health, too. I summoned an army of explosive - draeneis. They just owned him.

-Wards : MAKE DEMON OMNISCIENT?! That's too much :
240 seconds.
0 cooldown.
Low mana cost.
Too easy to find draeneis!

-More towers : The towers are kind of underpowered. I thought the towers were the best way to protect your base?

-Trees : Add some trees to the terrain. Also make the entrances to bases smaller.

That's all I have to say.
Hope to see it improved.

Now! Thank you both for your reviews! They're much appreciated!

Now, to anser ALL OF IT :D

Almost every building/unit has no hotkeys.
- Lazyness, going to do it sometime... i guess...

I tested it online :p, then there are 2 leavers (we are 9 players, 9-2=7) then i spawned in the middle of everything, above me is a Open Slot draenei, left of me is the leaver and under me is a leaver, I got stuck. T_T. Then they called me nub. You might make a good way to start
Haven't gotten around to make a leavecheck... but it's high on my list!

The terrain is too awesome for my taste....not. I know its beta but srsly, you might want to add a good terrain so people of the hive will be interested in playing this.
I've hired a terrainer - or, at least, i think i do.

The ore mines (forgot the name) are randomly scattered across the map.
Wouldn't want it any other way :D Yeah, i'm giving the draenei runners the ability to remove them, soon enough.

Why the heck the units that is trained on the Mess Hall (except the miner, soldier, and the boomer (forgot the name) is unavailable, "The requirements is not met".
- You both had this one - Yeah, i haven't put all that many tips in it, but you may only have 1 professionunit at a time.

The towers are nearly the same with the towers on kodo tag, please be uniqe D:
I know, but it's so hard :( Slamtowers are atleast new... and i haven't seen that type of slayer tower before... they're really odd... and, stuntowers... a classic i couldn't avoid... got any suggestions?

The terrain tileset doesn't match with the map's theme and the loading screen, maybe change it to Outland.
- you both had something like this - Well, if it's going to take a story, it is this: The draenei (yeah, plural :D) have fled to lordaeron, in search of refuge from the demons, however, the demons have caught up with them. - etc. Many abilities, such as riftcall (bookshelf ability) opens a rift from outland, to teleport in a soldier. It's much focused, on, that the draeneis have escaped outland, and the abyss. Some other abilities and units have powers, that link them to the abyss and such - the massive destroyer of... all.
That's the thought I've put into it, basically. maybe a little too odd a story for such a basic map...

Also, it would be better if.... when a Demon tagged a Draenei, stun the "new demon" for a few seconds and replace the "old Demon" with the draenei. Its hard for the tagged draeneis to look for the randomly placed "onced-Demon draeneis" (xD)
I'm making the cameras focus on the 'new units' as well, as selecting them for the player in the next update.

Ï think i answered this one - but i guess i'm going to make a 'send this profession unit to Outland' ability or something... so you regain some money, as payment for sending them to 'the front lines'

-Tested it Single Player only. Well, at start I was demon? You said "draenei sandbox mode". I guess not. I was demon, and computer (normal, you need opponent to start) was draenei. Killed him to become Draenei, and gone build a base.
Yeah, i was thinking about editor testing, when i wrote that.

At least add more trees.
Terrainer's going to take care of that, i presume, but if they interrupt the gameplay, they're gone, which i suspect they do.

-Ice : What does the ice do? Only reveal you to the enemy, to get killed?
It's slippery! Tried knockbacking anyone on it, or SLIDE!-ing on it? There's a tip about it in the ability... Guess i'll make a tip randomizer...

-Enemy will never die. The reincarnation, yes, is slow (30) seconds. But what's the point? How to win..
Haven't put loss / win conditions in action yet. Sorry. I know, then it won't end, or nuttin'... but it's mainly for testing purposes and such. The demons shan't be killed! - they're invincible monsters of the abyss.

-Ore Veins : The ore veins spawn randomly, some of them spawn on the cliffs.
You can still smash them while they're on cliffs... but i guess i'll move them around...

-Walls : Maybe add more walls. 3 walls are not enough and kind of easy to destroy.
Maybe special walls or something like that that are very powerful?
The walls are how they're going to be. If you use your professions, you can get better walls.

-Shops : Demons would need shops. You know, 130 damage is kinda not enough. And his health, too. I summoned an army of explosive - draeneis. They just owned him.
Since you played in singleplayer, he's easy to pwn. Usually, he gets a draenei or two... each time he gets a draenei kill -> level up. And the explosive draeneis are a bit OP... i know XD I think i'm going to lower the knockback, or make them damage everyone around them, instead of just killer. Chain reaction :D

-Wards : MAKE DEMON OMNISCIENT?! That's too much :
240 seconds.
0 cooldown.
Low mana cost.
Too easy to find draeneis!
The low mana regeneration takes care of that. And what do you mean about making him omniscient? all-seeing, perhaps? i dunno.

-More towers : The towers are kind of underpowered. I thought the towers were the best way to protect your base?
I know they are underpowered - they're just supposed to one way or another give you a break to repair your walls, or such. They're not supposed to be killers. It's going to be a real feat to destroy the demons.

-Trees : Add some trees to the terrain. Also make the entrances to bases smaller.
Terrainer'll do trees, if i let him... And, i couldn't agree more... they're way too big, from time to time...

Well! That was about it! I'll use this list to make beta 0.02, then! I really appreciate it!

I meant, he puts too much wards. like 5. And the terrain is small enough. So if he puts like, 1 in each corner, that'll make 4, and one more will be remaining.. So that's too easy.

BUMP!

New version! 2 new professions - Gravedigger and Farmer. new items all 'round... updated terrain by... me, Terrainer hasn't really done nuttin' Added stuff to scholar, engineer. And, what you've all been craving for: An additional upgrade to walls. it's extremely expensive.
Added a -give system, to trade units between players, for maximum usage of Engineer's profession. just select a bunch of units, and write -give XX (player number)

Haven't updated description yet.

This is the release for 0.02! check it out!

Again, whenever you want me to test, PM me.
P.S An additional upgrade to walls but is extremely expensive? Crap.
Would have preferred much more upgrades. :D

A TAG!!!!

I wanna help!!!

Ideas::grin::grin:

-Spy:Has a very low health ( 1 Hit KO ) , Fast moving speed, 15% dodging ability!

-Warrior:A fighter, unable to kill the tagger alone, must train over time(like in Vampire Speed, in the pool!, but this one on a training field whatever),then it could kill but it takes A DAMN LOTSA time to train!!

-Trainer: Trains the fighters class faster and could produce units faster!:grin:!

Can these ideas work?

PS: i can trigger quite well!:cute:

Haha, what an enthusiasm :D

Oh well, On my way home today, i was considering to do multiple different spells for the taggers. The spy one could be a possibility.

Oh well, your ideas aren't lacking, or nothing. The spy - was it meant to be a draenei or a demon thing?

And, the warrior idea - Yeah, a champion would be nice. - i am considering the option to convert your profession draenei into a champion. like, the gardener can cast entangling roots, etc.

Other than that, i don't like the trainer idea, but meh, nice to get some feedback once in a while - you've made me want to work some more on this project :D

And triggering - Naw, I'm a master triggerer myself, i just need testers that want to test alot, a modeler etc... Oh well! Thanks!
