Downloaded resource have no txt readmes.

Previously when downloading a model it would have a readme based on the in-hive description in both txt and html formats. Now only the html is there. I regularly discard the html one, so it would be helpful if I didn't have to make the txt one myself.

The reason we use HTML now is because of the rich text BB code. The HTML one was generated without the description until two days ago. If you download something now, it should have a proper description at the bottom of the HTML file.

I would very much prefer the txt readmes existing though like they always did alongside html. The reason being that I have hundreds of models downloaded and neatly organized, with their txt readmes being the only ones I kept.

How would you like the descriptions to show if BB code cannot be evaluated?

Attached an example from when the readmes were generated. Looks like it simply doesn't parse the BB codes, but they are still there.
For me it would also be perfectly fine if it simply stripped the BB codes, but not their contents.
It's this model.

Out of interest, since every computer in existence can open both natively, why is a text file better for you?

Mostly because I use my browser for completely different things. Most of the time I have the browser fill the entire screen, while a txt file rarely needs to be this large.
So when I look at a txt file and do something in parallel with it, I'd have to specifically make the browser window smaller, which in turn would collide with other uses. E.g, what if I need the browser for its usual uses? Should I then maximize the window again for a moment?
Overall I want to be able to freely switch context and due to those uses being so different it doesn't work out well.
That and then there's the thing that I have hundreds of models neatly ordered. I'm somewhat of an organization freak, so if I suddenly started using html readmes instead of txt I'd have to redo a lot of work.

Can't you open the readme in a tab? Or in a separate browser window? I don't really see how the program in use matters much.

That would require redoing the organization that I have for hundreds of models. Over 70MB of them.
Is there a reason to not have the readme in both txt and html format like before?

Every time I see a thread like this on the internet, I hope that the day everyone knows how to write basic code will come.
It will make life so much easier for people.
Writing a tiny script in some high level language to batch-process files is such a neat ability.
One can dream.

I'd say it's more akin to having a new standard every day. Sure I could deal with it, but why do I even have to? Why can't things just continue working the way they did?

On the one hand you are right to want a stable system, on the other, this doesn't let the system to improve as a whole. It's a general issue in life (I know it way too god damn well from my work).
While it is understandable that this bothers your usage, something to note is that this is a change that actually happened once in the whole life of this site (as far as I am aware?)
So in this case, if you batch-process everything, you are basically done. Hopefully?

That would be understandable if there was an actual cost to remaining backwards compatible. A txt file doesn't really cost anything. Heck, it may as well have the same content as the html file for all I care.

I am actually the type of person that supports breaking any backwards compatibility in life, if it results in a tighter more efficient system, so we will not agree on this, and that's ok.

I am talking about the description when people use tabs, tables, etc.

I have so far never seen that in a model description. If they are there, they may as well remain unparsed.

But at this point it's literally just renaming the file extension from *.html to *.txt.

Well, that's essentially how it used to be. There were both txt and html readmes on most models(the rest lacked both). If they are identical, so be it.
