I prefer LoL as it is much easier and simpler to get into. It has fewer mechanics, and has fewer terms etc. you need to learn and get a hold off.
Which one is better, I have no idea about though, I haven't played enough dota 2 to really be a judge on that.

Play which-ever one is easiest to obtain xD Both the games are essentially made by the same guy so you won't see much difference (other than the heroes, spells etc. obviously...)
