DoT Autocast ability?

Hey, I've been wanting one of these for several of my projects, and I can't believe there isn't one as a default Hero ability or something, but is there a way to make a "poisoning" or damage over time ability that's autocast? I can't see any as there now stands, just passives. But if someone could enlighten me on this subject I'd be grateful.:spell_breaker:

Triggers is the only way. U could make a dummy autocast ability that leaves buff on the target. Then u can use trigger which will detect any unit that have that buff on it to be damaged by the hero who place buff.

The negative inner fire is a good idea, I hadn't thought of that... only problem is that it wouldn't have a projectile. I was thinking because of all the different autocast "arrow" abilities (Dark, Cold, Searing) there'd be a venom arrows ability in there somewhere. Curse you, Blizzard! Of all the abilities, you couldn't come up with something like this?!
Oh well. I'll fiddle around with it. That trigger seems a bit too complicated for me though.

  • Actions
    • Custom script: call SpartDOTSet(CasterUnit, TargetUnit, EventTimes, TimeGapBetweenEvents, AmountOfDamage)
    • -- Example --
    • Set u = Triggering Unit
    • Set u2 = Target Unit of Ability Being Cast
    • Set EventTime = 5
    • Set TimeGap = 2.0
    • Set Amount = Intelligence of u
    • Custom script: call SpartDOTSet(udg_u, udg_u2, udg_EvenTime, udg_TimeGap, udg_Amount)

Give the melee unit the attack type "Missile" and the arrow ability have 100 range. (though i highly reccommend using Spartapilo's method or using a hand-built DoT SpellEvent Trigger)

e/ Oh, sry, thought you meant u couldnt apply an arrow to the melee unit. Spartapilo's method is really the only way to do it.

There's an ability for Neutral Hostile named Poison Arrows.That's autocast and has poison DoT.

Good crap, how did I not see that before? I remember years ago seeing this ability, but I thought since it was unused in the actual game, and that the arrows just looked like Searing Arrows (And the fact that the tooltip isn't even changed from the Priestess of the Moon's), it was just a knock-off of Searing Arrows itself. But there's the poison buff there, as well as the damage per second!
