Defend Ability

Is it possible to make the footman defend ability, reduce all incoming damage by 50% instead of only piercing. I have played about with all the fields but the unit still takes full damage. Or could anyone suggest an alternative defensive ability to look at. Thanks

Err, stop with all those dummy units.

Once a unit attacks the defended unit, copy the damage that was supposed to be dealt to the unit into a variable, and then remove the damage. Then, through trigger, make the attacking unit damage the defended unit- damage amount is the variable value- and attack type is piercing. Really complicated, also might be really stupid, but maybe- just maybe- useful.
