I want to play this RPG map but having to find where everything drops is a hassle. Is there any way to open the map up and find out where things drop?

If you can't normally open the map file, it's because it's probably protected. In this site we do not provide means of deprotecting maps or discuss methods of doing this (Rule 20 here: Site Rules ).
I recommend you to try to find out who the author is, and case he is still an active person in the community (be it in this site or elsewhere), you can try to contact him directly.
