[Import] Dalaran Bricktiles - terrain art is not working properly

Hello all,

I exported multiple OLD terrain textures (the ones before patch 2.0) with the CASC Editor and imported them to my map, but I have one that is a bit problematic and I don't know why.

This is the tile: Dalaran Brick Tiles
This is the path that I imported it to: TerrainArt\Dalaran\dalaran_bricktiles_diffuse.dds
Asset is set to HD, but setting it to SD doesn't seem to change anything.

Here are some screenshots

If I activate the "OldEnv" checkbox in the editor it looks like this:

Brick_OldEnv ON.png

And if I deactivate it, the 'BrickTiles' texture looks like this:

Brick_OldEnv OFF.png

Am I missing something?

Almost all textures from the screenshots are imported and all are working just fine, except that one.

Thank you!

Razvan

Did you import the normal map and ORM map as well?

If you haven't, it may be worth extracting those and then importing them (similar path, just TerrainArt\Dalaran\dalaran_bricktiles_normal.dds and TerrainArt\Dalaran\dalaran_bricktiles_orm.dds).

Normal maps affect how light interacts with the texture (often used for ridges/grooves/tiny-details without adding more polygons to the underlying mesh). Similar thing for ORM maps--except they affect the ambient occlusion, roughness, and metallicness of the texture with respect to the lighting used by the game engine.

I'm not 100% sure, but from your screenshot it kinda looks like it is using the 2.0 normal map/orm map (based on where the ridges and shadows are appearing), so it is worth giving that^ a go. It might just be extra noticeable with dalaran_bricktiles because the textures themselves look quite different from 1.36 -> 2.0, so you're more likely to notice the differences if you forgot to import the normal/orm maps. I'd also recommend doing it for the other tiles too if you want them to be 1-to-1 with how it would look on 1.36.
