Creating shadows/darker areas using models?

Hey,

attached to this post is a light model. If I place it in a map as doodad, it creates a 3d point light, enlightening the map area around.

I was wondering if it is possible to inverse such kind of light models in order to create shadows. Like a black glow effect or something?
Or maybe there are other ways to add decent looking 3d shadows to a map?
