I've been making maps from SC&BW, war2, war3 roc+tft, but on the first place I'm a gamer, played SC&BW for 3 years but war3 roc&tf ever since was out. I didn't have a good PC to play SC at home that's why I played other games too. When I bought, I played Diablo 2 LoD and that only, when roc and tft were out, I left D2 LoD and played RoC later TFT all the time, I didn't want any other games. If I was tired of melee I made a map or something like an RPG or mission, but still I didn't play any other game. I used war3 for everything. I regret that just when I'm getting good at melee I will leave war3 to move to SC2 when it is out. But since top players will move to SC2, I will be there too.
And another quite good reason is the SC2 campaign/map/world editor as it will be called. No more silly comments like Mecheon's 'we don't wanna make some futuristic models because war3 is a fantasy and no one would want them' well now it's my turn to say - No more bs WoW or other fantasy models as this will be futuristic game and any fanatsy model would look stupid there. (Or actually you may wanna replace skins of SC2 with war3 to turn SC2 into war3 just cuz SC2 world editor will be more advanced like now I was trying to turn war3 into a futuristic game? Good luck replacing everything like buttons, interface, etc just like I was trying now) Who would actually expect to use SC2 models in war3 editor when SC2 will be the new 'war3' and for me that means the new and only game I will play and will use for everything? And when SC2 will have a more advanced editor. Or WoW models in SC2 that would be the dumbest thing ever, in fact we have alot of makers of futuristic models here and you've seen how some even try to recreate the skin, the panel, the game interface icons to turn war3 into like another game, and it has taken a lot of time to turn everything right? Now SC2 will have its own icons for attack defense, game interface etc. I wish they made the icons like in war3 - not just green strucuters like in SC&BW but like in war3. Maybe the fact that I was also trying to recreate war3 into smth else was that I was starting to get bored of it too.
Besides, I don't know the release date but I somehow don't see the point in continuing my futuristic maps especially when I will be like 1 year inactive, I think SC2 will be out in 1 year or so. And I'm gonna use the same ideas in a SC2 map. The thing are models: why do ppl create futuristic models in war3? Because SC is less good with the editor and doesn't offer what world editor offers, you see now we will have the best ground for such models. I'm sure you would want your own models futuristic (because all the rest fanatsy would be useless) to be used in SC2. Yes, I hope they make exporters for the model programs so that we can export our models made for war3 to SC2. I still have some buildings from a game I'm trying to recreate and I believe that if I do, they may have an even more advanced editor that still allows import of custom models. Then I would use those futuristic buildings im doing in SC2. I'm sure you all will look forward to using your own models in the new game. Im sooo leaving the war3 editor and everything connected to it, so if someone still stays in war3 section of this site or any modelling site, maybe for fantasy lol, I find it silly but suit yourself. When SC2 is out, I'm outta here (warcraft 3 world editor and all forums of this site related to it).
I just deleted my maps so that I no longer work on war3 maps with having to move fantasy units to a special folder to turn it into a futuristic game. I'll just wait for SC2 instead of doing so many changes to a war3 map. Which means I'm starting doing the models I wanted in war3 to be ready for SC2 right now! My requests for the models (someone took the request no news from him) still remain, they will be used for SC2, kept in ms3d or 3ds, I'll just test them in war3!
