Damn, classic actually looks better.

The lot of players agrees that the terrain is the worst part of Reforged right now. A shame; tile terraining with only trees and minimal doodads was one of my favorite parts of Wc3. Hopefully they'll improve upon that.

Thanks for posting this screenshot by the way. I needed to see that type of terrain converted to Reforged to confirm my suspicions on how bad it was looking right now.

The original picture originates from reddit, i just removed the colors.
It's sort of a meme that all remasters remove contrast, i saw someone compare Diablo 2 to Diablo 4 on an imageboard.
Diablo 4 had the same washed out palette with no contrasts.
So i wanted to check out Reforged without colors and to no surprise it's not an exception.

I don't understand this modern trend of designing games without contrast.
It seems like a video game fashion trend.
Developers favor large color palettes, less contrasts and smooth blending - rather than sharp contrasts and smaller color palette which is more realistic and better for gameplay purposes.
The trend is noticable in MOBAS in particular.

I don't mind if the terrain has less contrasts, designing terrain for melee maps have always been harder because of the hard transitions and certain tiles blending with units. However the trees desperately need a hard contrast as they function as barriers that block units. Personally i would have loved a multilayer terrain system to allow for smoother transitions between tiles.

I don't find them funny inside YT either, to be fair.

The severe lack of detailing on the textures is an issue, too. There aren't many (noticeable) stones and cracks, and they could look a whole lot better now the engine supports normal maps.
