Constant hive timeouts

This has only been happening for the past few days since I got back from my holiday.

In the morning and afternoon (GMT), hive's fine for me. However, in the late afternoon and evening I keep getting timeouts that get worse as the day goes on.

Basically, as I keep having more connections to the hive, at some point it won't let me have any more and then I can't load anything on the hive for 5 minutes. In the late afternoon I can have about 3 or 4 connections (including the chat), but as it gets worse it goes down to just 1. When I'm on just one, if I load ANY other page, I get blocked for 5 minutes.

I've reset my router and restarted my computer several times, but that didn't help. Any ideas as to what's causing this?

Hive has been a little slower than usual as of late from here, but I always attributed it to being almost halfway around the world.

It's entirely possible that Ralle's connection is seeing a lot of traffic, not only from Hive but also from other sources at his house (torrents, etc...).

The server load itself seems to be not too high. If you try to make more than 5 connections to the site, however, the server may drop or turn away additional connections until one of the original 5 slots opens up.

I think it is called here in the UK the internet is rather crap.

Due to peer to peer file shairing via media systems like BBC I player the network becomes literly gridlocked due to their liking of overselling bandwith 100 to 1 atleast. I myself have noticed major slow downs in internet speed during the late afternoon where I achieve speeds of only 20-30KB/sec. At 10-12 at night I get speeds of 50-200 KB/sec as the network usage drops.

Honestly I believe it is due to the lack of a good internet structure in this country while providing services which need one. Hopefully as more fiber is laid around the country and higher bandwith services are given the problem will fix itself.

Try playing with TCP Optimizer for instance. Obviously, you could always call your ISP to deal it out. Some of the peeps there could be like "It's not possible" and other lame excuses. Just piss them off by calling every day or even multiple times per day. That should get on their nerv really soon.

Pyritie, delete all tempory internet data and make sure your bot is turned off.

All your tempory internet data may make it hard to download the images due to axcessessing the directory and thus go slowly. Your bot may be using up more PC recources than you would like it to and thus is making images load slower.

Images are 75% or more of the DL used when you load one of this site's pages and thus it may also be caused by slow connection as the page is loaded first and then the rest of the time is spent loading the images.

Tried that.
and make sure your bot is turned off.
It makes no difference.

The only thing it downloads is XML. It downloads no images whatsoever.

Images are 75% or more of the DL used when you load one of this site's pages and thus it may also be caused by slow connection as the page is loaded first and then the rest of the time is spent loading the images.
Yeah. When I turn off image loading, the page loads much faster. And I get no problems.

Still though, my problem is that something is happening when I'm downloading images on a site that causes me to timeout.

Probably your ISP.
It doesn't do this on the desktop computer though. Only my laptop.

Also do not underestimate how recource intensive a bot can be, it might only do that but still, it could load your PC massivly.

javaw.exe Pyritie 04 15,068K Java(TM) Platform SE binary

Hardly anything.

Check your energy managment options, maybe it throttles back something important used for picture loading (like internet rate, graphic card or harddisk rate).

...

It's on high performance, and I haven't touched it since ages ago. Like I said earlier, this problem only started happening when I got back from the US.

I'm still having this problem. I've found though that it only does this on site pictures that change or are "fetched" from some sort of database.

Examples:
- youtube "related videos" pictures
- deviantart avatars
- furaffinity thumbnails

If I disable images then the site works fine. On youtube and dA I can still browse the site with the images not loading but it gets much slower.
FA just plain refuses to load for about 5 mins.

I haven't noticed this on any other site other than these 3. I also went to these sites on my family's desktop computer and I get the same problem.

The sites load just fine when I'm at school.

So it must be a problem with my router or something.

Any suggestions?
