Can't create water in my map anymore

Another problem.

The best way to make natural looking water, is to first place the water (apply cliff), then put normal cliffs over the water, and finally lower the terrain (apply height).

But for some reason it's not working for me anymore. I even tried copying the lake from an older version to my map. But once I paste, all I get is lowered terrain, without the water.

It happened when I was using ''smooth'' on some terrain (not even near the lake). And it just disappeared...
 
Puzzles me.

A few questions. How high/low is the level of the land the lake is on?
The cliff level might be too low to put water on.
What did u paste? is it on a different cliff level than everything else?
 
Hah, figured it out. Somehow my ''Enforce water height limits'' function was on again.

Plus rep for both though, once I spread some around.



But check this out, it's what happened when I tried to make regular squares of deep water:
