Can ordinary units use items?

I have e.g. footman, which has inventory ability, he take Book of dead which can summon 6 skeletons, but normally only hero can use this item, is there some way that normal unit can use it also?

i checked WE litle bit, but i didnt find anything.

Add to given unit ability called 'Equipment (Hero)'.
EDIT or change value 'Can use items' to true in any equipment ability.

you need to make sure units do not use tome(tome of str, exp, etc), or something bad will happen
