Buff without specific caster?

Hello Hive!
In my opinion the question I want to ask looks a little... well... awkward. I used the "search"-function, but I didn't find what I were looking for.
If the question was already asked, I'm really sorry for this thread, if not, here is my question:

I want to know if it's possible to add a buff on an unit without a dummy unit that casts? I only found the "Remove buff from unit..."-function, but I (maybe I'm blind?) didn't find a "make buff on unit..."-function...

Is a casting unit required, or is there anywhere a function that allows me to make a buff on an unit without an unit that casts the spell?

well acually im pretty sure that you can,,, i remember that i have.... humm well you can create a ability (dummy) and then add that ability to the hero/unit... or?

The only ways are using an aura with targets set to self only applying your buff or using a dummy, theres no way you can add buffs with triggers.
