Introduction

It's time for me to finally release a full map for a very long time; and I present you: (Boss) Challenges!

The main idea for those map(s) is that players will build up a team of five (5) or three (3) players in order to fight a boss. The boss might be easy for some and impossible for others; but that's not a problem. Practise gives results.

The thing is that you have a timer starting as soon as you pull the boss and when you defeat the boss the timer stops. A team who manage to defeat a boss will be able to post their final time here in order to take a position on the leaderboard (listed below; one for each boss).

So, in order to defeat those bosses the players have several classes with different roles to play with.

There's 8 different classes and 3 different roles. Some of you might have heard of the roles from World of Warcraft or any other game out here. The roles are the following: Tank, Healer and DPS (Damage Dealer).

Every team will have the same conditions and every new boss challenge will contain the same classes as other boss challenges.

Roles

The Tank
The tank is a role that is used to prevent the boss to attack weaker players in your team (as the healer or the damage dealer), as the boss hits hard the tank has defensive cooldowns to reduce the incoming damage.

The Healer
The healer is the one that keep every member alive in your group. With healing abilities and important cooldowns the healer will do his best not to let a member fall.

The DPS (Damage Dealer)
The DPS is the role who make the boss die. With a high damage output the DPS have to time and use abilities correctly to do the most damage.

Classes

  • Protector [Tank]
  • Guardian [Tank]
  • Lifebinder [Healer]
  • Templar [Healer]
  • Runemaster [Healer]
  • Berserker [DPS]
  • Assassin [DPS]
  • Sorcerer [DPS]

Systems

Threat System
Players will gain threat against the boss. The player with the highest threat will get targeted by the melee attacks from the boss. Tanks have a 3x threat multiplier from their damage done; others 1x.

DPS/HPS [Damage System/Healing System]
Damage per Second and Healing per Second is calculated from the players. Who's the one that deals so low damage? Who's healing low? Time to find out!

All damage and healing you do will be displayed as floating texts.

Custom Abilities
Together with the damage and healing system every spell you use in Challenges is custom made by me.

Channeling System
This is an interesting feature in Challenges. A lot of abilities take x seconds to cast; if you move while casting an ability it will get interupted! This is something that actually make a boss hard!

Fun boss mechanics
All bosses have custom abilities they use against the player team. The players have to find out how to deal with them!

The bosses also have voices they use in combat to make them feel realistic!

How to get ranked in the leaderboard

In order to get your team (team name if you'd like and player names) in the leaderboeard you have to upload a replay of the record kill here in this thread (a boss kill with a better time than the three highest listed).

Sandbox is a Single Player map -mode where you can try every class and role. You have unlimited picks and there are four training dummies in the area for you to practise with.

There's also a Data Holder who let you reset your current DPS/HPS in order to give it a new shot!

Emilas, a priest from Dalaran has become corrupted by an evil source. You have to stop him before it's too late or destruction will end upon Dalaran.

Health: 8000
Mana: 9999
Physical Damage: ~85
Phases: 3

Phase 1 (100% health > 75% health)
Corrupted Blast
Emilas will target a random player and summon a corrupted path. After two seconds the path will blast into corruption and deal 225 damage to any unit who got hit.

Skull of Death
Emilas will summon a skull of death who will fixate on a random player and start to chase the player. If the fixated player get hit by the skull, the player dies. The skull will last for 6 seconds.

Corrupted Armor
Emilas will corrupt the armor of his main target, reducing the armor of his current target by 75 for 20 seconds.

Phase 2 (75% health > 20% health)
Corrupted Blast
Emilas will target a random player and summon a corrupted path. After two seconds the path will blast into corruption and deal 225 damage to any unit who got hit.

Skull of Death
Emilas will summon a two skulls of death who will fixate on two random players and start to chase the players. If a fixated player get hit by the skull, the player dies. The skull will last for 6 seconds.

Corrupted Armor
Emilas will corrupt the armor of his main target, reducing the armor of his current target by 75 for 20 seconds.

Dps_icon.png
Raise Dead
Emilas will periodically raise a skeleton to aid him in battle. The skeletons can not be tanked and will attack any target it want. Any player who is hit by a melee attack from a skeleton will suffer a 60% movementspeed reduction for two seconds.

Phase 3 (20% health > 0% health)
Fully Corrupted
Emilas become fully corrupted by the source; you can't save him anymore, you have to kill him!

While corrupted Emilas do not do any melee attack or any other ability from the previous phases. He will stand still and channel Corruption: Death.

Every 1.66 second Emilas will deal 38 damage to all players. This damage is increased by 2 after every Corruption: Death he casts.

A long forgotten passage has been found within the cold mountains of Northrend, myths tell it's the legendary passage to the tomb of Ye'lak. The treasures inside this tomb is said to be... Incredible.

However, this tomb is guarded by an ancient being named Syria.

Phase 1 (100% health > 0% health)
Frost Attack
Syrias' basic attacks hit all nearby enemy units of her main target and apply a cold effect for 0.1 second, decreases movementspeed and attackspeed by 25%.

The cold landscape of Northrend has enhanced Syrias body with an extremely cold aura; dealing 12 frost damage every second to all enemy units nearby.

Breath of Frost
Syria will breath a powerful frost attack in front of her, dealing 200 damage to targets it hit and apply a damaging de-buff that deals 20 damage per second for 5 seconds.

Iceshard
At random locations, Iceshards will fall from the sky, dealing 80 damage to any target it hits.

Icy Feets
Syria will freeze a random target at its place, make it unable to move for 60 seconds.

This effect can be broken if the target unit is attacked manually by a friendly player.

Chill Hearts
A devastating ability used by Syria. She will link two players together with a horrific cold beam, targeting their hearts. The further away the players are from each other, the more damage they will take.

Frost Nova
Syria will start to channeling Frost Novas around her, a maximum of 3 novas. Each nova will deal a high amount of damage, 100 - 300 damage if any player is struck by it. Each nova have openings which players may use to be able to by-pass the nova.

Freezing Armor
Syria apply a Freezing Armor around her for 8 seconds; increasing her armor by 5 for the duration. Also, all damage she take within this duration will be split to all enemy units around her.

After 5 minutes of the fight, Syria will one-shot all players on the map, instantly killing them.

- Is 5 players too much nowadays for a Warcraft III map?

I would love to play maps like that and I dont really think 5 people is too much for maps, if you have friends to play with, which I certainly dont have so I will most likely not play it(at least not way it is indeded to) but if I had someone to play with I would definitly play some maps
If the bosses are unique enough it can be very interesting map
 
Thank you for your response.

I could try tune the bosses so a different amount of players are able to engage and defeat the bosses and do seperate leaderboards for the amount of players. A minimum of two players it will have to be for every challenge, as single player seems a bit... Boring for maps like this.

I'll see what I can do.

Emilas the Corrupted is a pretty simple three phased boss, with a pretty challenging last phase for healers. If I can see more interest from people the future bosses will be more advanced and require more strategy.

Syrias Abilities

Trying to resurrect this project by releasing a new challenge! This challenge is scaled for three (3) players. The reason I only made this for three players is because I think it's easier for players to create a group, this is just experimental and five player bosses may be added in the future.

This challenge is named Syria. Syria is an ancient guardian located in Northrend, guarding a hidden passage to the tomb of Ye'lak. It's a single phased boss, but with a lot of abilities.

You can click the tabs above to view her abilities or see a screenshot.

I've put a lot more effort into the terrain for this challenge, as I think its important for maps like this. I might re-make the terrain for Emilas the Corrupted in the future.
