I recently won a fair amount of Amazon gift card money at a work event, and having nothing much else to spend it on, I'm considering buying one or two of the WarCraft novels. I love the WarCraft franchise more than any other (I'm currently going crazy with anticipation for the movie) and own every game and many supplemental things like the WarCraft Roleplaying Game books, so I want to expand my knowledge of the lore and stuff by reading some of the narratives.

My question is, which ones are good and which ones are best ignored for someone who grew up with the series and generally favors the older lore of the games over new content? For example, my favorite character is Medivh, my favorite games are WarCraft II and III, and I pretty much don't even want to think about what happens after Wrath of the Lich King.

Avoid anything written by Knaak like the plague.

Christie Golden is a pretty decent-ish author though. Maybe start with Lord of the Clans?

Last Guardian is about Medivh but I don't know about its quality one way or the other. (written by Jeff Grubb)
