Well, folks, it's happened again. Another classic Warcraft III map has been adapted into a standalone title - this time it's Battleships, now titled "Sirocco".

Everyone is a boat in this 'MOBA meets Vampire Survivors' game inspired by a Warcraft 3 mod

Apparently, @Ziadoma, the current Battleships: Crossfire map-maker, is designing this game.

I'm very happy to see that things came together for this project. Some may recall that back in 2013, there was an unsuccessful attempt called "Battleships: Crossfire X", which ended with a failed Kickstarter.

I hope to see more of this game!

I wonder if Bliz will sue them.
The only time they did that was with Dota, which at least ended favorably for Valve. Blizzard could have sued the developers of Legion TD 2 and the other standalone adaptations, but they didn't.

To this game's credit, it isn't a 1:1 adaptation and uses a different name, so it's probably closer to League of Legends than Dota, where it borrows concepts rather than actual Warcraft content.

In Blizzards defense, DotA 2 had Warcraft 3 heroes in it. That's like putting Mario in your million dollar game and expecting Nintendo not to care. As much as I hate greedy corporations, I also dislike lazy creatives who don't put in the effort to ensure that their work is unique. Even if it's the bare minimum like renaming something, it at least shows a conscious effort.

Blizzard has a pretty great track record when it comes to their tolerance of fan related content, unless I'm missing something. But you know, that's one pro in a sea of cons...

I know that you're probably half joking, but Blizzard will never sue over a game like this. I doubt anyone at that company could name a single Warcraft 3 map besides DotA - for obvious reasons.
