Hello,

intutively, I thought Entangle is better because target can be attacked/killed. However, when I gave it a little thought, I found many other aspects where Banish is better than entangle:

  1. No CoolDown (more spamable)
  2. Less mana cost
  3. With mana siphon, even more spammable
  4. Cast Range? (800 vs 600? Need to double check; it also varies with versions)
  5. Can also save allies.
  6. can also amp heal.

So, which one do you think is better? Banish or Entangle? and why?

I'd prefer banish in case i was heavy on Magic Damage not to mention you can pull to many shenanigans whith it,

For maximum lockdown i'd say entangling roots its the better of the two.

As @deepstrasz said their value is dependant on the situation.

A banish when you have a team full of knights wont do you no good.

Banish tends to have more uses tho I am gonna give that to it(tends to be more versatile)
But entangling roots wont let units affected by it use items so that means the hero can't use the tp scroll.

Both can be dispeled.

4 knights vs 2 abominations will win (the other 2 will be banished)

could you please expand more on those different "situations".

the good side for root is that it helps to increase level because target can be focuesed.

Obviously the main purpose of the banish spell is to funnel your other spell damage...So if you have a high priority target let's say a Pitlord hero with TP and a invunrability pot your main goal is To take him down ASAP before he starts being a nuisance but if you lack other sources of magic damage the banish will be a waste to use it and on top of that will nullify the damage of your Knights now if you have a MK and gryphon riders the banish its much more useful due to the fact you can burst him down before he gets to use those pesky items. In this case banish is used as a mean to nuke an enemy hero asap

Yes you are right that root will help disable your foe BUT it can be dispeled and has a 8 seconds CD while banish has a CD of 1.65 so probably by the time your foe has dispelled you got another one up for your rotation.

Other uses it can help deny neutrals from enemies early on,help deny kills of your units, help stop a hero from denying one of his units you are trying to kill,it can help unit block a enemy unit or hero and make him spend his TP scroll(roots can do the same here tbh but banish its much more mana effective)

"Disarm" high priority units in a fight.

Root its much more straight forward and useful early on when you are lacking other sources of high magic damage while banish becomes way way better later on when the sources of your magic dps increase but it does require better micro as opposed to ER.

I'd think 'roots be better early on. Kotg is common first or second pick. Bm first is kind of shooting yourself in the foot. Late game banish has much more potential, mostly from the low cd, plus ideally unlimited mana plus flamestrike dmg. I'm not a great player but I dont think its common to see Banish very early, compared to Entangling Roots anyway. So, not the most fair comparison. Roots is powerful early game ability that is still useful late game and banish has a lot of potential if you get a high enough level bmage.

@map designer Hello! You summoned me and I came (a bit late). I never though about that but since you asked... I do not know, depends of situation as other explained. Personally I am not good at banish spell and do not use it often, prefer other spells for some reasons. I find Entangle roots more usable. It immobilize target and deals damage for few seconds.

Entangling Roots is a lot easier to utilize, especially early on as your spell choices are pretty limited, however, later on if you have a lot of Gryphons, combined with the Phoenix you acquire with the Blood Mage, Banish can be devastating.
