Allow Local Files on a mac

I've read that you can edit a value in the registry such that warcraft will take files directly from the directory instead of the mpq. I've tried this and it works perfectly on this computer but is there a way to do the same for a mac? (I don't mean running windows on the mac) I'd imagine not many people have macs so it's quite a hard question.
