I want to create a 2D game similar to Super Mario Bros. An example of the sort of thing I am going for is Soldiers v2.96.

If someone has already asked this sort of thing or if anyone knows of any tutorials for this please forward me to those! Thanks :)

oO (after thinking)

A mario game with warcraft... well its definitly going to be hard....

You need lots of camera triggers which create the 2d point of view...
keyboard movement + jump

wow wow wow plz let me be beta tester^^ I love mario...

@DarkAngelAzazel

Do something helpful or gtfo

@thread maker
I'd suggest you to find an open source 2d map

Anyway before asking a such question you should first start making that map
then if you stuck at somewhere (that may be like "I cant make platforms that I can jump on them in my 2d map" or etc) then you should ask for help

thx. with using raised terrain as a platform, would it be best to use regions on cliff edge or is there another way to create an artificial gravity?

Here are some screen shots that show jumping and moving. Notice how the Soldier stands, due to 'gravity' on the cliff face. Was this done with regions? Does anyone know how to do this?

I hope this explains things a lot better.

you need to modify unit's pitch angle and roll angle

those are in object editor in every unit

EDIT: perhaps you should know that you must use negative values. Those are entered by holding down SHIFT+ double click on the field you are about to change and then enter the negative value

@ DarkAngelAzazel, I wrote your name down for when it gets to Beta

@ Avatar, although that is one solution, it wouldn't allow for more complex backgrounds, or using the raised terrain as platforms

@ Darkrider, I think thats the best solution. With your edit I now know how thx. (+rep)

Also, thanks for all the advice, I just wanted to say that this thread is being discontinued from my end, as I'll be putting all my updates in an edited thread in Map Development called Playdoughrevisited's 2D Battle.

Also, how do I make this thread "solved"?
