The footsoldiers were significant part of every European nation's army. They were the first in the ranks to take direct hit from the enemy forces, and first to make the attack move!
Hello! Looks pretty raw, it needs more shading and highlights (what Misha said). I didn't feel the metallic texture at all - it is dull. The face's skin looks pretty dead. I don't what this is, but the brown thing around his armor looks like wood and when it is zoomed out (in game camera) it looks like the footman is naked. What I could suggest is to learn texture differences.
After playing around with it - I will add to the suggestions (if you don't mind, that is)
So, you can take it one of two ways. Make the armor leather-only (Gambeson) or go for a Coat of Plates. (see images)
In both cases - making it a bit darker and adding more pronounced shading is a must. As for the shield, I'd suggest adding an option (secondary download?) for a metal one. Just to add variety to the mix. I do like the TC on it but maybe also play around with that and more typical medieval patterns? (again, variety)
Now, what I've said is only relevant if you're going for historical accuracy. If you want to create your own, then everything apart from the shading comments can be ignored. Cheers
