I wouldn't really call it a bug. I'm not sure who discovered it and how, but it was found that if you give every unit that enters the map the defend ability, they will cast it when they are removed from the map.

You will need a custom defend ability. On map init, you disable the ability for all players so they don't see it. You give the ability to all preplaced units + any unit that triggers the "A unit enters playabe map area" event.

Do keep note that this isn't the only way detect units that leave the map. There are two other alternatives: deindex units every X indexed units or check your list every X seconds.
