I like the idea, but I see a couple issues with the fences in the way you've done them by just moving the rails around and removing the nails.

First of all, the texture is a bit off with the change from the rails from being nailed to the fence posts to being fitted into the posts.
This has left those large darker patches on the posts and rails where the rails used to meet the posts, and the black holes in the wood texture where there used to be nails.
I'd advise lightening the dark patches to match the rest of the wood, and retexturing the holes into wood to match the grain of the posts.

The second thing I'd advise to do would to be to make the rails straighter and thinner, so they're a uniform thickness about a third of the width of the posts, and that don't flare out at either end (how would they fit into the posts?), like in the examples below:

Finally some good fences. But how do I add them so they use the variation system in the object editor, so I don't have to create one model for each?
Hmm, I'm not 100% sure (and someone can correct me if I'm wrong), because RMS is refusing to open the relevant models, but looking at doodads with variations, their Art - Model File is "XYZ <Base>", which I assume means that it contains all the "XYZ <Variation>" models of the same type that you can see in the RMS screenshot.
