Allright, increased sharpen filter from 35 to 55 (which is quite insane, as my other resources only allowed sharpening with a factor of 20-25, otherwise the results were pixelated). Somehow it works here, though. xP
The original idea of this was two planets fusing together, the center being where the process takes place, along with masses of energy released. That's why it has to be this bright, else it wouldn't show what the process is all about.
Yes merging. But it does not need to be that bright. At least go check what it looks like when its not at bright. If you don't like it then don't update it. But remember these are just my opinions!

Trust me, I try many things before actually uploading stuff. In this case, I tried various opacities aswell as fading in/out and various colour combinations, but lower opacity looked washed-out, which I didn't like at all.
The actual idea for the merging effect came from this. I also tried various energy rays etc., but the results didn't satisfy me.
Ehm, that's not supposed to be earth, just some random planet without any propper land mass. I just picked different colour combinations to change the overall feeling of this icon, the original colours were red-ish.
I'll see what I can do about the moon craters though (too dark shading will make it look horrible, so it has to be quite subtle).
Edit:
Updated and attached first version for those who want it (as I really like both of them).
