I've given the Campaign a try and all I could say is that it gave me more than one episode to rage quit it because of the difficulty. I did this to myself thinking "how hard can the Hard setting be?" and I found out soon when I was swarmed by Undead.
I've also found a few bugs that I'm not sure of others have encountered:
- When Arthas returns to the capital and wants to speak to his father, during the cinematic Arthas will walk in the middle of the room then immediately turn around and leave.
- In the Undercity there's a delayed trigger when you reach the first magical bridge that teleports you to the beggining of the area and you talk with some unseen bandits.
- After you reach Kalimdor, if you press any button or click your mouse during the cinematic or as soon as the cinematic ends, you can't click on anything anymore.
The story was alright, it was good enough to keep me curious how things will develop but I didn't agree with some of the ideas in it:
- Why did Arthas focus on laying siege to Zul'farak during the early stages of the invasion? And why did he sound like an eager to help boyscout?
- Did the Warsong Clan decide to just leave the humans alone after one defeat?
- So as soon as Arthas fled towards Kalimdor with Jaina, they were no longer pursued by the agents of the Burning Legion and everything was ok?
- How exactly did Arthas build up relationships with the Night Elves when all he did was kill them and chop down the Ancients right when he encountered them?
- Why is everyone believing Arthas when he's saying that he had a vision of the future from the Dragon Queen when, most likely, no one knew who she was in the first place?
- Why was Thrall bent on killing humans in the first place when all he wanted was to restore the Horde's honor?
- How did the Undead manage to enter Quel'thalas so early and who brought back Kel'thuzad?
In the end, the story lacks proper fleshing and explanation of the events that are to happen or have happened leaving everything to the imagination of the player. The dialogues are brief and blunt, with little information making it hard to form a bridge with the characters or even make them believable.
In my opinion, this link here
would have been good study/reference material for the campaign in order to make it more believable. Not identical to what's in the video, but to use the video as a guide to build the base of the story.
The maps were good but I wasn't very fond of the last map where everything was difficult to destroy, Arthas and Jaina became powerhouses and Stat Tomes were dropping on almost anything that was destroyed during the siege. It felt unnecessarily difficult and long.
Overall I grade the campaign with a 2.9/5 because I enjoyed the challenge of the missions and I can appreciate and respect the effort that went into making this campaign. It's a shame the story wasn't strong enough and wasn't polished as much as it should have.
