So i am wondering, how do i get World Editor to stop crashing like.

So i have a Map, Saved as a Folder also Saved as a Map

However when i open the editor first time, it loads the map saves it once

But if i try save again it acts as if saving then erases all custom data Models, Triggers, Everything

if i close the editor it crashes and i am forced to task manager close it and then the map becomes corrupted and no longer opens

is why i stopped working on my map a year ago, thought it be fixed by not but still same issue

Note: i do not know if this is right forum to ask this, if it isnt let me know.

More details please:
Windows version; system specs; warcraft version

Possible fixes:
-Use the most basic destination folder, like C:\WC3Projects (no weird signs, numbers, not in program(x86) or programfiles)
-Check your registry, especially
1782030800722.webp

-Clean routine of importing custom assets and using test map ctrl+f9:
1. import -> modify imports -> SAVE
2. modify object data, or anything else -> SAVE -> test map again: always save before testing
3. >>> create backup versions <<<

Windows 11
Latest Warcraft 3

Ryzen 9800x3d
RTX 5090
64Gb Ram

I save to desktop or a folder on desktop
I do got a back up, however when working on map saving every time you change something is annoying especially big map.

Besides after saving it one time the next time saving acts as if it saved the custom assets are still visible on the world edit, so you don’t notice it broken till when you close editor and find out the files are missing from map folder, or when you save as a map and manually test, you notice everything is missing, uis are green boxes models are invisible then you find out it is cause there not in the map anymore

EDIT: Not sure if am checking right location but i don't see any Reg for Test Map Location in the warcraft 3 section of registry

Working on large projects is tedious like that.
Eventually you'll have to do testing sessions with a protocol, fetching all your little changes - then test it all in one big sweep instead of step by step.
Only backup afterwards, if everything is still intact, or, of course, before a big change (i personally tend to backup once a day or so).

Any chance you are saving to a directory, that has read-only enabled? Or some form of automated file recovery. Might be bitlocker as well, but i only vaguely remember hearing about it encrypting files so certain programs can't read them anymore.

For now i'd change the folders, perhaps install wc3 on another partition and check Win settings - also ask in the Discord channel.

ok so Desktop and the Map Folder said Read Only, i unticked it and applied it, and it still says read only, so maybe a windows issue?

Looking it up, it says its standard on windows to do that but can still be read and write in so i dunno

Looking into it more, even in security Tab in properties it says allows full control.

I have Uninstalled from E drive, deleted all W3 in Registry and Reinstalled on C Drive.

I dunno what Bitlocker is, so i assume not, i du use a Malwarebytes Anti Virus, dont think that would be causing issues.

Searching Bitlocker, it is turned off on all 3 Drives.

EDIT: so i opened the map folder, added the custom models only 6, saved it, took a back up of the folder, closed editor which crashed still had to task manager close, went to load map again and it now says the folder map doesn't exist, folder is still there but not openable, so now i lost the data i just did already, even the back up doesn't work.

Editor only seems to crash when i have the map open, not any other map

Random question about that, is it possible the crashes are because i am using lua scripting, as my other maps use jass and no issue.

Dont think it lua issue, it back to unable to save file and i changed it jass

Now it let me save it as a different name, but that be annoying to keep doing, still crashes closing editor

Saving as a New Name seems to work when i close and reopen, but aye that is annoying to do.

Could be any antivirus really, just deactivate it momentarily for testing.

Then again, the editor only crashes on any custom map, or only on your map? How about slightly altered default maps?

No idea about LUA, however... testing regimen would dictate turning it off and on, or at least portions of it that might be faulty to see what's up.

edit: i just found your thread from december last year, same suggestions pretty much
I'd ask around in the discord, or ai (i know, blasphemy:zip:).
