Hive's servers go down because computers are not perfect and they can fail at times.

"It was down" is very vague. Also, when was this? I didn't notice anything.
It could also be your internet, unless you got a message specifically saying that the site was down.
The server could also go down because of maintenance, power outage or system overload (too many users online) etc.

He's just curious, what's with the hostility?
And for the last 2-3 hours Hive has been going offline (And then back online a few mins later) periodically for me, browsers being unable to find/locate it as if it wasn't even there.

when this website went down i feared the worst. this is the best site to get help with problems and the best site to help people with problems. i have learned a lot about warcraft 3 and starcraft 2 from this website.

When the website is down, I just go browse elsewhere and wait for whatever maintainance is going on to be finished. If it's something dire, it will be made obvious to you, if not outright stated on the page you are brought to.

I do believe there was some problems with a DNS server. Ralle contacted support, and now it seems that we're back online

Well according to results, it was down for only some of the users, while the server itself was up (based on the results of http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com). I tested it several times when the site appeared to be down.

For me that page told that Hive was down for everyone.

I mean, I don't know, back in 2007 or 2008, we used to have a server problem caused by someone (or multiple people) hitting the site with «multiple connections» (I think that's how it was called back then). I noticed it happened when I opened multiple tabs for the Hive. We have an increased flow during the weekend, but I'm not sure if it's really about excess traffic, we've had over 1700 users viewing the website and it seemed to work fine then, as far as I know.

I cannot remember any dates, but last time the site was flakey was an issue with DNS servers at Namecheap, they had something going on there.
Before that, there was a time where we were doing something and by mistake took down the servers network connection so we had to get support to help us
But aside from that, the server has been running stable the last year.
