Why was the auto-scroll checkbox removed from chat?

Just wondering. So does it always auto scroll or never auto scroll now?

If you scroll down to the bottom, it will automatically scroll when a new message is posted, if you scroll up, you are free to check the older messages.

I liked the old one better. This one gets stuck on like one pixel or something, then a whole bunch of messages go by and I don't even notice.
