Yes, however the art was not subject to the final graphic revisions that all other used art went through. As such its quality slightly mismatches other zerg units, like the orignal infestor model.

I remember hearing that it got axed somewhere between internal alpha testing and the public beta launch. Thus why it is so complete yet never used.

I suspect the lurker will probably get some tuning up for HotS, as eithor a melee unit (probably not) or atleast as a capaign unit like wraiths, goliath, vultures, science vessles were in WoL.

If blizzard decided to save it for HotS, it would explain its lack of appearence in both campaign and melee despite being largly functional. Thus the lurker we have is the left overs from early development rather than a finished unit like the terran units I mentioned.

Afterall, if blizzard gave us most of the protoss and zerg units in WoL, why bother getting the expansions...

The Lurker was cut from the game because Blizzard felt it was underused in beta. We'll see if it will be retooled in HOTS. a Campaign appearance atleast is very likely.

the brutalisk was in the campaign. twice. 1 in the secret mission and the other during the mission where you had to collect gold minerals for that spectre dude

EDIT: the one that was not use was th flying thing... it's called the swarm guardian in the desert strike map

That does not explain why it was not in the campaign. Additionally I played the beta and it most certainly was not in it.
Sorry yeah, I was abit wrong. It was removed a bit before the beta, because it was underutilized in internal testings.

It's understandable why, the hydralisk ended up being moved to Lair tech, so in turn, one would assume that Lurker would then move up to Hive tech, and at that point the Lurker doesn't seem worthy of its place in the tech tree when compared to the other Hive tech units.

The Lurker was not in the beta. I was a participant in beta and I can tell you for 100% it was not there. It was cut slightly before the Beta because Blizzard felt its role overlapped with that of the Baneling. Go search on the Battle.net forums, you'll find this posted over 1,000 times and 2,000 more posts asking why it isn't in the game.

I already corrected my error:

As for why they were cut from the campaign, my best guess would be that Blizzard didn't really find a role or spot for them. Also, if I remember, correct all (or atleast most) units in the campaign get some sort of introduction, even a little one. Blizzard probably didn't find a mission for the Lurker or something. Yeah this is pretty far fetched.

I still think the unit lost support for WoL thus why it did not appear in the campaign and why its art is not as well tuned as other zerg. I would not be suprized if the lurker is a constructable unit in the campaign of HotS and that it will come with slightly altered art.

Additionally, to increase its usability from defensive and pushing roles, the campaign could allow it to move while burrowed. Afterall, in the WoL campaign they did permit ghosts and spectres to cloak indefinatly which made some missions too easy (remove detectors with blast, win).

No, lemme note some stuff for you. The brutalisk is in the mineral gathering mission, the one that kerrigan attacks the databanks, trying to find the location of the artifact's pieces, and the secret mission. Also, the Swarm Guardian WAS in the game, in the "The lost Viking" arcade game.

yea i forgot about kerrigan attacking the databanks...

well.. technically the swarm guardian it was not part of the campaign. But since LV was part of the campaign in some ways... yea then.

I could only imagine the zerg player whining that would come from the lurker being added as is to melee in HotS.

"It's too weak!"
"I'ts a waste for the zerg tech tree!"
"Blizzard is nerfing zerg!"

It would turn into the exact opposite of the reaper.
