What determines the map loading-time?

That is a question that have been haunting me for weeks now.

I compared a Footmen Frenzy map with a Dota map and Dota loads in like 10-20 seconds while Footmen Frenzy is finished after several minutes. It is not the filesize, a dota map is much larger than FF.

If it's not the filesize that determines the loading time, what does?

First and most important, the triggers are very important in loading, e.g. FF has much own triggers (spawning, upgrading, income etc.), while Dota has only a few ones (sounds, item combining etc.).
Then there are the self-made units, items, upgrades and so on.
FF has very much upgrades and units, Dota has "only" 90 own units and no upgrades. And in FF the standard items are edited, so this takes some additional loading time.
The terrain also takes some time, but this is all triggered in dota, but not in FF.
And finally its the own computer, depending on the GHzs and the DDR RAM; and it also depends on how many times you loaded the game file. If you played Dota 2000 times, but if its your first FF-time, then it`s to understand, why Dota loads faster.

Hope i could help you.

Also theres a tool called Widgitizer, which extremely reduces the loading time of the map. (Depending on how many custom objects you have) It does this by storing all the data into .slk which load much faster.
