Run the .exe program, click "Open" in the upper left side, browse for your map. What I do is check every of the boxes to make it faster and smaller. Then press "Save Optimized As..." and save your map as a new file.

ok here is step by step.

1. use the program 7-zip to open it by doing this.
a. right click it.
b. near the top of the list is the word "7-zip". go to it.
c. click "extract all" hint: i would suggest putting it inside of a folder first because 3 items will appear. like name the folder "map optimizer" or something.

2. double click the readme. (highly suggested with all 3rd party programms) read it.

3. when you are ready double click the .exe file. if you use vista it may ask you whether or not you are sure.

4. at the top it says "open..." "save optimized as..." "save batch as..." and if i recall "open batch." i have no idea what batch is so dont mess with that.

5. at the bottom there is a very large button called "browse" that button will want you to look for warpatch.something normally that file is in where ever you have warcraftIII folder in. it usually is not inside a sub-folder from there.
a. browsing for that file is very important if you are going to optimize your map.

6. go ahead and click "open" it should be on the VERY TOP LEFT. search for whatever map you want. and naturally u gotta click it.
a. whenever you optimize it, it always does it with "save as.." and if you know what that means, that means it doesnt save over the original file, but instead creates a copy with whatever name you want with the updated stuff you did to it just now.

7. click as many of the boxes as you can including "delete as much WE-stuff as possible". clicking that last one will completely "Protect" your map. and since like i said in 6.a. it doesnt save over, it wont affect your map.

8. dont mess with the part below the button "browse" i mentioned earlier, because i have no idea what that does.

9. click "save optimized as".
a. it will ask you for a name for it. if the map is named Bob. i would suggest using name Bob1.2(or whatever addition it is). or Bob1.2PROTECTED. or OFFICAL. basicly a offical name. it will NOT let you save it using the same name as any map inside the folder.

10. wait about 10-30 seconds and BINGO! the map has been decreased in size by 10-90%. the map i used it on decreased by 33%.
a. it will create two files. one uses the normal war3x tag. and the other uses the same tag with a ".j" extension to it. i honestly dont know what the difference is between them so dont delete them. just put the ".j" files into a custom sub-folder just to get them out of the way. and start using the file without the ".j"

warning: this sometimes causes weird glitches. for example it has sometimes caused all the doodads, units, or terrain to disappear. if this happens just delete it and do it again. it usually does clear itself up the first time. if not then it does the second or third time. if not then idk.

I do everything you say, I have no wav sounds at all, but it only compresses it by 3.71%
Why is it doing this?

well it would depend on what's on the map. if the map is huge then there is more to compress, if it is small then there is less to compress. my guess is the map size is allready incredibly small and there wasnt very many files to compress.

its like trying to squeeze a book or waterbottle to the size of an ice-cube. then trying to squeeze a car to the size of an ice-cube. there is more to compress in the car.
