There's been several attempts to remake Warcraft I & II using the WC3 map editor, but as far as I know, none of them got very far (correct me if I'm wrong)... The main problem seems to have been adjusting the game mechanics to resemble WC1/WC2.
How about doing a "re-imagining" of those games rather than a remake?
Keep changes to game balance and unit stats to a minimum.
Redoing as many of the original maps as possible, and change only enough to make them "work" in WC3.
Adjusting the original missions to current lore, such as Khadgar and Lothar joining the raid on Medivh's Tower.
Connecting the levels into complete WC3-style campaigns, but making changes where appropriate (for example, the final human mission of WC:Orcs & Humans is not part of current lore)
Is there any interest or suggestions for such a project? Comments are most welcome.
