Hi, i don't know where specifically to put this and i have looked, so i'm putting it here.

I didn't realise there was an update for Warcraft III and i just did it. I can now no longer access my maps i downloaded. HELP! i looked for updated versions of these maps. here is a list of the maps i have that TFT can't see..

The maps are under ...\Warcraft III\Maps\Scenario\my maps\
does the file path affect what WCIII Sees? i haven't tried putting them into download or just maps or just scenario. please help! i thought someone might have some experience with this, which would save me tonnes of time. Thanks!

Maps are stored in your user folder now, not as part of the game install. For WC3 to see non-standard maps one has to place them in Documents\Warcraft III\Maps. There may be a maximum path limit present, hence it is recommended to place them either directly in a folder in Maps such as Test or place them in the Download folder for multiplayer maps.

Can blizzard update it to add a way to change the file path so it can be made portable?
User accounts are already portable. Not sure what you are asking.

If you want a USB stick version of WC3 then that is not supported. Like all Blizzard games it must be installed. It can be installed for all users and you can copy your data to your user account.

If you still insist on a USB stick version, then try expanding a pre-made "Warcraft III" user folder into the current user account and when the game is started it should see all maps there. Basically try adding template user data to the current user account, something that should not require elevated permission since one is already logged in with the current user.

Ok, user documents aren't "portable" they can be redirected and windows automatically puts in a simlink to it, so for example, i want to move those documents and tell windows where they are and not use the simlink. I want to move all the files from my directory for WC3 to my usb. There was a portable version i got off the school computers, i've bought it now but still, RoC was the portable one, i had no problems with that. As soon as i updated it stuck files on my computer, basically rooting it to my computer so i cannot move it from my computer to another computer and play it. Does that make sense? RoC maps were in the WC3 file, but TFT isn't.

Yes it makes sense because software is not meant to be portable. Portable software is a big source of security problems, hence this modern trend.

Your user account is meant to be portable. One can copy data from the user account to a USB stick and then copy from the USB stick to the user account. One could even write simple scripts to automate this.

There are actually a lot of portable software to get, some contian viruses yes but most do not. My version of RoC is portable, but the update screwed it up

Nothing stops one making portable software. Just it is extremely bad security practice to do so in 2017.

All programs should be installed to a Windows OS, requiring administrator permission to do so. Once installed the program files should not be modified, except if the application updates or with administrator permission. All files created by the program for a specific user, eg downloaded maps, saves and screenshots, should be stored in the user account folders. The old Warcraft III did not do this, hence it ran into permission errors on Windows Vista and newer OS.
