I made a 2D sprite model made of billboarded planes.
Pros :
+ It's cool and fast.
+ It's 2D.
Cons :
- It's one sided.No matter the direction the unit is moving it always face the same direction.
I don't think you can manipulate a unit's facing if the 'model' is billboarded.
You would have to adjust the camera to simulate a billboarded look of a non-billboarded 2D plane.
Another way would be to add an alternate animation with the other facing and then check with triggers what animation tag/facing it needs when it moves.
