Saving and reloading with these textures on a placed model will corrupt map (cant edit). Below are 2 ways to get around this issue

  • (Only if no one else is going to play your map... they'd have to do this too for it to work for them) Place textures files in "Warcraft III/retail/war3mapImported/..." (you will have to add the last folder I believe, but may have to add retail as well, (NOTE: you must have done the regedit change to enable local files)

  • (if you want to be able to easily share this map with others...) Have 2 versions of your map. A "save" one, and a "published" one. Only apply the model to the units before saving a "published" map. Never save to "save" map without removing changing what model the unit use

  • ... If someone has any idea how to fix this issue that would be awesome. I have spent hours testing and saving as different file types, and nothing works: Loading Map Crashes (Custom Model Import Issue --- Specifically the Textures being used)

NOTE:

***The way i did it, you dont have to mess with editing the paths. It directly looks at war3mapImported/(textureName)
***This has seemingly resulted in the "View in 3d" here not working (not showing textures).

*** You must make walk speed less than run speed for them to use run animation. This just requires changing "Art - Animation - Walk Speed" near top of object editor

  • made model less wide
  • made hammer longer, but smaller
  • made shoulder pad closer to body
  • removed wings from boots

OPTIONAL: (Model)

- added crown

EDITS: (Animation)

- Made it so you can have a walk vs run animation by changing, in object editor, the "Art - Animation - Run Speed" and "- Walk Speed".

EDITS: (Texture)

  • made gold less yellow and more brown/orange
  • made armor less blue/purple and more gray/yellow
  • made cape hardcolored to dark maroon
  • made glow/crystals orange/yellow
  • made text in book actually legibile by making a thin section near center of letters much brighter than outside

NOT INCLUDED: (But available in another post of mine)

- GIMP .xcf files so you can easily do edits yourself just by selecting layers and using "Colorize" or "Hue/Saturation".

Sorry about file size. I did these for myself, and actually edited it so I could directly inject it to override uther without needing to import anything so this doesnt really affect me (IE i dont need to worry about a massive asset bundle size for importing it in maps). Cant really be bothered to find out how to compress it. If someone wants to do so and post it here, feel free.

Convert the TIF textures of the model to the .dds and the issue with corrupted map will be gone.
At the current state the skin / model is not acceptable

Edit: Also in current state of the game / editor all maps should be saved as folders not maps
I have done that for a different model and it still corrupted. For this other model i found a solution though (so maybe thats half the problem? Couldnt get the other solution to work here). I had to remove the teamglow pop corn effect and remove the team color entry from the materials.
