Arthas (With Sword) Edits and Retexture

Saving and reloading with these textures on a placed model will corrupt map (cant be re-opened in editor). Below are 2 ways to get around this issue

  • (Only if no one else is going to play your map... they'd have to do this too for it to work for them) Place textures files in "Warcraft III/retail/war3mapImported/..." (you will have to add the last folder I believe, but may have to add retail as well. (NOTE: you must have done the regedit change to enable local files)

  • (If you want to have others play your map...) Have 2 versions of your map. A "save" one, and a "published" one. Only apply the model to the units before saving a "published" map. Never save to "save" map without removing changing what model the unit uses

  • ... If someone has any idea how to fix this issue that would be awesome. I have spent hours testing and saving as different file types, and nothing works: Loading Map Crashes (Custom Model Import Issue --- Specifically the Textures being used)

NOTE:

***The way i did it, you dont have to mess with editing the paths. It directly looks at war3mapImported/(textureName)
***This has seemingly resulted in the "View in 3d" here not working (not showing textures).

*** You must make walk speed less than run speed for them to use run animation. This just requires changing "Art - Animation - Walk Speed" near top of object editor

EDITS: (Model)

GOAL: Sword looked silly, I wanted it to be more like an actual long sword, with a handle that could support either one handed OR two handed (meanwhile base game model handle only supports one handed, despite him using it as two handed)

  • Made sword thinner
  • Made sword slightly smaller
  • Made handle longer
  • Made Pointier

-MAIN: Removed ice from armor

EDITS: (Animation)

- Made it so you can have a walk vs run animation by changing, in object editor, the "Art - Animation - Run Speed" and "- Walk Speed".

EDITS: (Texture)

(Main)
  • made gold less yellow and more brown/orange
  • made armor less blue/purple and more gray/yellow
  • made cape hardcolored to Black/Gray
  • Changed eyes to be more white/frosty than deep blue

(Sword)
  • recolored to match armoer gilded bits
  • Added emissive that makes blade frosted
  • added more lights to the eye sockets of different parts of the handle

also his sword makes more sense being big, the horse/rider killer kind, since he is already wielding it 2-handed, the original tiny one handed looked boring.
when you are in a fantasy world, were even women carry around large blades, you can't be the "final boss" going around with a gladius type sword lol.

omitted first line to avoid getting called racist lol.

Its not much smaller ( well it is, but still looks big when he holds it- just not comically big ). primarily just a bit thinner. The big change is the handle length so it actually makes sense when he uses 2 hands to swing it-

I think these belong to texture section.
I made changes to the model as well. Specifically to the sword. Also to animations so you can make him walk/run depending on movespeed (walk speed, run speed) setting in object editor

Going to probably delete this post. Hoping someone can test it before I do. it seems the model may be corrupted? It loads fine for me - but when i try to load a map (in editor) that has the model placed, it crashes.

It DOESNT do this for me when I put the edits into my local files and just straight up override an existing model. But it does when I try to import this.


I think issue may be with the file types not being BLP? I am just throwing out guesses. But a model (that i am pretty sure works for others) also does it, and it uses .dds files. The ones I have tried with .blp files all worked fine. Hoping its just a me-issue and I can get it fixed

It appears the issue is for many models on here and not just mine, so I'll leave it up with the warning and instructions to avoid issue.
