I got it! Took me a while, but I got it.
If the TP target location is too far from the tree being portaled to by the time the TP should occur, then it is cancelled. This requires 1. natures blessing, 2. that the tree being TPed to is walking in a straight line, and 3. that the TP target location be manually selected to be as far as possible from the tree in the opposite direction in which it is walking. During the TP charge time, the tree becomes even farther from the TP target location, and an error message appears: "a unit could not be teleported". It appears this can be done over and over without penalty (and no cooldown on TP)...obviously something that should be fixed.
Edit: PiratePree is right. It doesn't require natures blessing, but it does make it easier. You also don't need it to be walking or even uprooted prior to selecting the TP location, but that also makes it easier. You do need to manually select the TP target location to be as far as possible from the tree, and move it in the opposite direction.
 
Ah yeah, I read about this just yesterday. I'll add it to the list. I wonder whether this should be considered a bug or "clever use of game mechanics". :p

But yeah, it is probably worth fixing since it is pretty unfair in favor of Night Elves.

I am sorry but the problem with this is? I am guessing the TP "fails" but still teleports the units resulting in a free teleport? If it fails to teleport then what is the problem?


I remember there was a pro play where a guy faked teleport to become invulnerable then walked out of tp range and tp stopped (it was a level 10 warden abuse).


He won a game almost only using the warden.

Research nature's blessing, use teleport on tree, and move the tree in a linear path as far as possible. The teleport will end up canceling if the original target is too far away from the original point, so the warden can play mindgames/get free invuls (although, they can't attack for the duration since they are channeling). Other races can't really do that.

The person in this map was mostly just trolling, but blizz could fix it by making it so TP still ports even if the unit has moved pretty far. Removing invul from teleport itself isn't really an option since it is such a big part of gameplay and the item itself.
 
Removing the invulnerability effect on tp scroll is much more drastic than simply fixing this bug.

Also, who says this is a night-elf only exploit? It also works if your town hall is destroyed before the tp finishes. The next-level blademaster trolls for the win! Kappa.
 
I remember that warden game, amazing.

It can be kind of annoying, but setting it up is not that easy/convenient (as NE you need a non mining ToL, which is only likely to happen in late game).
Wouldn't really consider this a bug, but if there is need to fix this, I would suggest a tp cooldown if the teleport is not succesful.
