Dont import as tga, they wont have alpha support (most likly) thus giving a black or green icon.
and u need DISBTN or they will be like that too.

You must also rename your icons/images properly.
BTNDraenei.blp
then delete the border and darken the image
and save it as tga and convert.
DISBTNDraenei.blp
Paths would be:
ReplaceableTextures/CommandButtons/BTNDraenei.blp
ReplaceableTextures/CommandButtonsDisabled/DISBTNDraenei.blp

I replied to this same question yesterday in another thread.

Well 'Mirror, the problem of the "green square of death" is relatively easy to fix.

First, icons imported into maps should ALWAYS be .blp files.
Warcraft3 Viewer can easily convert files back and forth.

By default, most icon paths are:
ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtons\
ReplaceableTextures\CommandButtonsDisabled\

--->Some additional information<---

Even for NooBs, creating basic icons is simple. Building original and good-looking icons is more difficult.
First, be sure you are familiar with: This old tutorial

You'll need these tools:

1) Convert the file ICON_TEMPLATE_STARTER.blp to a .bmp or .jpg or .tga (.tga prefered) using Warcraft3 Viewer.
2) Open the file with your image editing software.
3) While maintaining the integrity of the border, paint in the black area.

OR

3a) Open any image file and edit it to suit your needs.
3b) Resize the image to 56X56, then copy and paste it into the ICON_TEMPLATE_STARTER.

To easily create Disabled or other icon types, you need Adobe Photoshop and:
  • [url=http://www.wc3sear.ch/index.php?p=Tools&ID=31&sid=]Icon Layer for Photoshop
4) After you are satisfied with step #3, (if in Photoshop) open the warcraft3icondocument.psd.
5) Drag the desired layer from the .psd directly to the center of your image.

6) Save the file with a new file name. Ex: BTNScarfWholeCountries.tga DISBTNScarfWholeCountries.bmp
7) Re-convert it back into a .blp.

Your results could look something like this:

btnscarfwholecountrieswq1.jpg

disbtnscarfwholecountriuy7.jpg

If you don't have PhotoShop, you're gooned. You must make do with whatever image software you DO have in order to create the DISBTN, etc.

Warcraft 3 Image Renamer is another powerful tool that performs a variety of icon editing actions.

Please bear in mind this important information if you submit your icons to THW.

The supersecretsearchsystem can also be very helpful.

The problem may very well be with the icon file itself, some icons get corrupted for one rason or another and then just refuse to work.

If you would, attach a copy of the icon in question to this thread: upload both the .blp and your image file; that way we can all take a look at the file and run our own diabolical tests on it.

Which program do you use, photoshop or gimp ... well, I had once a similiar problem, when it's asking you, if you want a "RLE-Compression" or somesthing like that , and if you do so, it happens what you described, so when you get asked for a RLE-Compression, you have to denie it. Well, in additional, do what it is written down above, that should fix the problem.
