Is there any way to get a doodad or model with a tileset-specific appearance (for example, Beastmaster summons look different if in Felwood or ice environments) to keep its appearance in a different thread?

For instance, I'm trying to get the red waterfall from the Dungeon tileset in a map that uses the Sunken Ruins tileset (need a cascade of blood effect).

Is it possible? For the waterfall, yes.
Waterfalls work similarilly to water. The dungeon tileset's water is red so the waterfall is red. The Sunken Ruin's water is red so the waterfall is red. However, you can go to the object editor and make a custom unit based on the waterfall with a more reddish tint.

As for units, make multiple units and use triggers to change them when they move (if thats what happens) or just make multiple units.

--> well if the map only has one tileset, you could just always use a custom skin...

And you can recolor the water doodads of the UTM via the OE
