~The Wheel of Time~

~~Summary~~

- This is An RPG / adventure type of map. It is going to be an RPG with a strict storyline and restrictive exploration. However it is a very realistic map. The envirnment is meant to give you gameplay like a real ... PS2 perhaps ... gameplay...except in warcraft 3.

- I read some of "The Wheel of Time", a very popular book series, and i was thinking about creating something. However my mind brought me to making something different. This map does not follow the story of that book. Instead it will follow a differnt story.

- This is yet another one of my maps that i hope will make it to fruction ( so far only one map has ). This map will definetly give you a fun time...let me elaborate....

~-~Features~-~

- So far this map size is 256 x 256 ( Epic ) and will not exceed that.
- Map has an entire variety of songs and sounds, all extracted from HERO RPG ! (Go and check that RPG out, it gave me inspiration).
- Terrain is simply beutiful. Has some high resolution doodads, and has so far one high resolution unit ! ( extracted from Septimus's map, Brotherhood of Kenji )
- A smooth RPG camera for excellent Gameplay. Hero movement with arrow keys and an attack system similiar to my other map " the Dark Cloud "

Things you must know...

- You must know a few things....
This map is the PRE-Alpha version. It is incomplete ! there is nothing to do whatsoever in this map so far, except walk around. You can download it from the Link below to play it, however it isn't finished. Do not expect to have hours of fun because i just started it >.>
- You must know the following to expeiernce good gameplay :

1) Turn your Music OFF and turn the SOUND ALL THE WAY UP in warcraft 3. Since the map is based only on the sound, not music.

2) Use ARROW KEYS to move your Character !

3) Type in " -cam1 " or " -cam2 " without the quotations. This activates the RPG camera. You must do this to play lol

4) Use the ESC key to swing your sword, You can find a weopon in your house !

The Map is made with UMSWE ! so you must have newjen pack 1.5 to open it, a regular WE or WEU will not open the map for editing ! However it is unprotected :)

maybe you could add some kind of story so other users know what this map is about :)

You are not giving up Dark Cloud? are you?

hopefullly the dark cloud will be completed. I know i havn't worked on it. but lol you never know i might get some time on my hands ( this summer ) and maybe complete that shit, as well as this shit =D

and ya the point of this map was for realism as vercas knows. I tried to make it as real looking as possible ( which means some high resolution models )

Excellent stuff as per. Is this going to be somewhat of a spiritual sequel to The Dark Cloud?

it is great! The terrain is very well done! The camera system is quite nice, though it doesnt support z-axis so far,, which i think you should add (or order someone to add =P)
also, you cant turn left easily,, it stops after about 5 degrees, turning right is totaly fine,, but turning left is wrong,, and im not talking about while walking, cuz that totaly works, but im talking about when standing still
Also, i could walk over the mountains,, now i know you are still busy with it, but you shouldnt forget that =P
Also, you leak,, alot =P,, i suggest using Jass or vJass for cam/movement system, since it will be more accurate and you can move better,
you can do SetUnitX() or SetUnitY() which is NOT the same as SetUnitPosition(),,
SetUnitX/Y does not interupt animations/spells/channels (as far as i konw), and SetUnitPosition does,,
also it is better due to the point that you order the unit to move now, which can make the unit stop later than you want,
and that could be really annoying when running away from something,, or someone,,

see thing is, i dont know how to JAss or anything. Just GUI =/

but ill take everything u said into consideration yixx :D
and ya im aware of that inability to turn left while standing. i checked the triggers and i cant seem to find out whats causeing it.

and ohh this may or may not be related to the dark cloud...probably not though.

but umm ya its a secret ill share with u.

the mountains in the background are what give the realistic effect. They are gigantic ! and there are tiny versions of trees near the tops. It gives the map a sence of depth and of course realism. The trees and grass also add the detail. =P

But everyone stay posted ! as i will keep updating that little pastebin and give you more of the map as it comes along...sooner or later it will develop its story and gamelpay and exploration.

Well, for those systems, i can try to do something for you, but i cant be your general triggerer, due to a thing you probably know, ;)
But i would love to try those systems, since it gives me a challenge! >=] And i like challenges,,

I can take care of multiboards. I am a master of multiboards.
I can do inventory systems for you in a multiboard.
I can do spells/skills systems for you in a multiboard.
It's a special project of mine. I am working on it in my secret underworld laboratory! I mean...uh... my room!

Weell since both you and yixx have this map. just edit the map ( yixx ) with the imprved camera ( lol cause for some reason i couldn't figure it out )

and vercas, sure. you can also edit the map, but that would be after yixx is done editing it ( unless he says otherwise )

The movement system is almost done, it is just,, animations :grin:,, i dont know how to make it play Walk animation =P
And i need to think about MapBoundarys,, cuz now it can 'walk' out the map (not really walk,, now it only floats,, that i why it needs animation =P)
And i got a strange error thing which i think is nothing to worry about, but i will still ask someone,,
Also, i made it that with a simple Custom Script command you can change the speed, and if you want i can make it change turn rate also with a simple command,,

this is going to be fully single player? And single player only? Cause otherwise i have to edit some triggers and add events,,
Also, if you want, i can make an ability like run or something that increases the speed for a period,, and when you dont run, you charge energy,, that would become something like runescape, when you run, energy flows away, and when you walk, evergy builds,,
if you want,,

EDIT: Animation is done -.-,, i just used wrong animation name,, i used 'move' instead of 'walk'
duh,,
but still,, it indicates different X and Y values than it should, and also Angle is something wrong with,, just really weird,,

Well, i tried to make the accelerate system, but it didnt work,, i guess i overestimated my own abilitys =P
But that dash system shouldnt be too hard,, The system currently checks for walkability also,, so you cant walk into stones and rocks! >=D
but i gtg to work,, so i think ill finish this tonight,,

You are correct. This is a map which we should look at. The terrain was great.
I did not like that you were using the original icon for the footman.
Also the item do not stack.

But of course this is just an alpha. It will be improved.

the mushrooms arn't supposed to stack. They are just dummy items. I was planning on adding a multiboard bag holding system, so that the mushrooms would be stored as variables and used via multiboard...ive seen it done before

and yixx already did the system supposedly , lol srry vercas lol

ohh and that character is just a dummy character for you to explore the world. Its not really finished. i didn't make the hero yet lol so ya its alpha =p

Ok, the dash system gave me a hard time, and it still does,, but the general Walking works,, If you want, i can implent it now for you and re-implent it when i finaly finish the Dash system,,

a very nice pack indeed :) its very small size too

and vercas, its okay its not like im in a hurry to finish this map ( i have high sckool exams as well and stuff ) and i have other projects ( like pokemon RPG =O lol )

and Yixx, you can implement it. Ill post a newer version of the map in a second. just download that and put in the system and then give it back when your done. In the mean time im workin on POkemon RPG :p

This map is really nice and i hope you will finish it :D
But when i played it i discovered some bugs.
I know this is only a Alpha version but in case that you dont now about them or forgot.
-You forgot to place blockers around the other houses.
-When i press left arrow the unit turns very little to the left, but when i press right i can just hold it down and i can turn the character around how much i want, please fix the bug so i also can turn as much as i want when i press left arrow.
This is only when im standing still.
-there is a samurai on one of the mountains.
-instead of using arrow keys i can just use the mouse :(
this is very easy to fix and im sure you know how to do it :)

I also have some suggestions:
-I think the samurai have far to many swords maybe you could ask the creator to remove some.
-why did you place grass on the coast line under water? try replace it with sand/dirt.

ya lll those things are things i didn't bother to remove since its an alhpa version lol. i know there are two samurai's and i know that the pathing blockers arn't all implemented yet. and i know that the movement is bugged.

however thanks for the feedback...if u find anymore bugs i might not know abuot please tell me .

I have implented the system,,
though, you need to do some things when you change anything,,

Now your initialization trigger says:
  • Set HERO = footman 0001 <gen>
Now you need to change one thing (i have done it for you for now)
  • Set HERO = footman 0001 <gen>
  • Custom script: call SetUnit(udg_HERO)
Then the system knows the HERO unit is the one to move,,

If you want to disable the movement, do this
  • Custom script: call DisableMove
also, i have moved the actual unit, because it bugged and moved it back to the corner of the map when you started,, really strange,,

Move it to somewhere in the house where you dont see it in the cinematic but you need to place it in the house, otherwise it bugs,,
Also, tell me if you want to show the message that you cant walk somewhere, becuase now it shows like 50 times when you walk into a rock (0.035 interval, you know)

So, tell me any improvements or so,,

You now see it in the cinematic, but just put it in a place where you cant see it in the cinematic,,
Oh, you can also give it the 'locust' ability and hide it, place it at the starting location, then when the cinematic ends, remove locust and unhide it, so it doesnt bug,,

OMG this looks so nice. I'm downloading now, can't wait to play. :D

EDIT.

Loved the terrain and how smooth everything looked, +rep

Here are some tips for improvements:

- Change the pitch and roll angle of all units to 0. That way they won't be standing horizontal. It looks alot more realistic in my opinion.
- Make the whole map visible.
- Turn left didn't work, I suggest you take a look at it.

Really nice, keep it up :D

Terrain is amazing, one of the better forests I've seen in WC3. Though it's missing a few things. Like wildlife, water, and other fine details.

A couple things I noticed that I'm sure you have:
-You could combine your three Item triggers into one, and get rid of the Do Nothings.
-Many Pathing Blockers still needed.
-The floating sword is odd while watching the cinematic, maybe put it in after it's over.
-As it is, the movement system isn't that great, but I know it is being worked on.

Not much else to comment on as it is. But what there is seems really good.

Why is she carrying so many swords?
