Overview: Star Trek - Final Defense is a star-ship game where 9 plays assume control of a Federation ship. The goal of the players is to survive ~20 minutes against waves of Borg ships until the Borg Cube arrives. After the Borg cube is destroyed, victory is declared.

Federation ships have 4 abilities: Tractor Beam, Shields, Phasers and Photon Torpedoes. Tractor beam disables a ships weapon and engines, shields drain from energy (mana) on hits negating damage, Phasers are the standard weapons that cool down rather quickly, and photon torpedoes are a slower, but more powerful ship to ship attack ability.

The game is balanced so that a single federation can take on a single Borg ship in combat. However, at greater groups of 3 or 4 Borg, a federation ship will be quickly depleted of their shields and health. This requires teamwork on the part of the players in order to ensnare enemy ships and destroy them while they are inert, or else risk being overwhelmed by the numerous and advanced Borg.

The game also features a custom UI, custom models, custom music, and the ability to upgrade ships through the ranks. Unfortunately, the code at some point (either at the beginning or during translation) stopped working properly, and the Borg will eventually just amass as far away as possible from their objective, and never attack again unless provoked. In addition, the 3rd-person camera lacks quality. Also, as this was a foreign map that was translated by the uploaded, the descriptions are poor.

Conclusion: Although this game might still be fun for some, if they enjoy playing a game with the triggers no longer correctly in effect, this game does not “work properly” and as such, if re-moderated, would likely be rejected.

Rating: 2.0
