can anyone show me a easy way to make a item with a chance to cast chain lightning on each attack?

Sure, use Orb of Lightning ability and change purge with a custom chain lightning. Then add the designated item the modified Orb of Lightning ability. Plain and simple, no triggers required.

nice.. i think i got it to work, but how do i change the chance on hit

There is a field for that in the Orb of Lightning ability. There is a chance of success of heroes, units and... items I think (can't remember, I don't have the WE installed anymore). Modify those fields accordingly.

yeah.. i changed all to 100% just to try it out but somehow after the first chain lightning comes out it stops, only 1 can be casted

Watch out at the cooldown too. If the support spell has cooldown, it will activate when the orb actually activates the ability. I also can't remember about mana cost whether it is taken into consideration or not. I'd double check that too.
