I just played this game in the single player mode (to get my bearings, find bugs, etc.). Here's my commentary
Pros: 1. Terrain looks decent.
2. Some original boss battle strategies. (Project Mech takes the cake with the need to destroy life sources.)
3. Nice use of custom models.
4. Some nice music such as the re-done GHZ theme.
Cons: 1. The way the party system is set up is a REALLY bad idea. For example, if I were to play the game as Shadow, I would have to wait at least fifteen minutes just to actually be able to play. I doubt most people would be that paitent and not leave by then.
2. Since players other than blue start out with less experience, this leads to balance problems for the other characters since they're always behind in EXP. This might be okay in a single player game, but in a multiplayer RPG game, this is not a good thing.
3. Very little character variety. For most of the game (except for bosses) you run into the same type of monster, only with a new color and larger size. This even applies to the heroes. A gnoll would make an excellent model for Tails. Speaking of which, Tails is supposed to be an intelligence hero, not a strength hero. He's also orange, not yellow.
4. The monsters' tactics are very bland. Its like the only characters that use spells are the heroes. Enemies could use spells to simulate the use of special weapons or something. Change some of the attack types of the enemies to match the type of weapon they use, then alter stats as nessecary.
5. Where are the credits and tutorials? Sure, this game is easy to pick up and play, but I would like to see some commentaries on the characters such as the abilities they use, their in-map fighting styles, etc. You could easily put those in the quest sections. That combined with the map protection and bad party system insures that very few people will ever see what certain characters use for their spells.
6. The voice acting is simply atrocious. No offense, but it makes Sonic Heroes' Tails and Mega Man 8's Mega Man sound good by comparison.
7. In single player mode, you can get trapped in some areas, such as one of the doors in stage 4.5. (One of the circles of power in a room locked a door behind me that wouldn't unlock regardless of how many times I passed through it.)
8. As a fellow Sonic fan, this map isn't very accurate to what it's based on. Chaos never died, he was slapped back to his senses after he fought Super Sonic. Shadow would never have known he existed unless this somehow takes place after Sonic Battle (status as cannon is questioned). Amy is not "Amy the rascal", she is "Amy Rose". I know some games name her that way, but those ones are not cannon. (Part of the official story line.) Only Sonic 1-3& Knuckles, Sonic CD, Sonic Adventure 1-2, Sonic Advance 1-3, Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, and the next gen ones can be truly considered cannon. Sonic and co. actually do live in earth (or a earth like planet populated with humans) as shown in Sonic Adventure (which references events from Sonic 3& Knuckles). Sonic is also missing some key moves such as the Homing Attack, and there is the absence of some iconic robot designs such as crab meats and buzz bombers.
-Overall: Nice try, but there are too many problems with this map for me to consider it good. 1.5-2/5.
